sheba5 Posted April 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2008 We will be disembarking in the port of Callao and have heard that you are not allowed to walk to the exit gates. Are taxies readily available when you come off the ship, or is there a shuttlebus, that takes you to the exit? Any information is apprecciated. Are you disembarking PERMANENTLY or just going for the day???? Make a BIG difference. There are a few taxis-the port is restricted to those that have PERMITS. You may have to wait for quite a while unless you are VERY nimble and can snag one of the taxis that is actually inside the port. It is a VERY dangerous area outside the port-one of the worst in Lima. If you are going on a tour/want to see Lima, PLEASE book something pre cruise. If you are PERMANENTLY disembarking, also make arrangements pre cruise. If you need further help, please post.
sheba5 Posted April 9, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 9, 2008 Thanks for your quick answer! We are permanently disembarking. Even if I pre-arrange a taxi, they'd still need to get a permit to pick us up. Another option is that we take the transfer from the cruiseship to the airport and take a taxi from there to our hotel. At least we would not be "stranded"!

At least we would not be "stranded"! If you already have a hotel booked, call the hotel and have them make transport arrangements. They will be fully aware of taxis/shuttles that have permits to get into the port. The Lima airport is almost as bad as the port. Just have the hotel make the arrangements. You won't be stranded. sheba5 Posted April 9, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted April 9, 2008 Thanks Greatam. I don't have a hotel booked yet, but I am looking into it. Our cruise is not until november, which gives me some time. I really appreciate your advise!
