meneelyb Posted April 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2008 Just got back from St. Martin. We booked with Bernard's and ended up with John as our driver. He was terrific. We did the tour backwards-Rima's (great place to buy souveniers, you won't find anything cheaper durign the entire cruise!) then to Orient Beach-Marigot-Maho (Sunset Beach Bar with airplanes)-Phillipsburg and then to the ship after shopping. We started our tour at 8:45 and returned to the ship at 4:45. John let us choose the amount of time we spent at each stop. Orient Beach was rainy and windy so we only stayed for one hour. We had some short photo ops throughout the tour. We spent about 45 minutes in Marigot. We stayed at Maho for 1bout 1.5 hours because we wanted to eat. John dropped us off in Phillipsburg and asked what time we wanted him to pick us up for our return to the ship. He had water, soda and beer for us to enjoy at each and every stop. He made sure we were all well taken care of!! It was quite the bargain at $30pp plus tip.

Puddincat Posted April 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2008 We had John as our guide when we were on St. Maarten/Martin on March 28, he was terrific!
meneelyb Posted April 12, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted April 12, 2008 We only had 45 minutes in Marigot-not much time to explore. It seemed a bit crowded and lots of traffic. We looked at the open market, then tried the fresh coconut. A guy with a machete hacks off the end of the coconut and gives you a straw. After you finish drinking the "milk" (tasted like weird water) he would split the coconut and you could eat the meat. Interesting experience! johnlcruise Posted April 12, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Great Information. Bernard was allready book. But he told us we would be using John on his tour, June 5th. At first I was not too sure. But after reading your review I feel better about John. Thanks

I would like to head up there first thing. Thanks again, Jan :)

NYHartChapp Posted April 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2008 The only thing we wished we had done differently is have lunch in Marigot. There are many open-air restaurants serving local food. Unfortunately, we had had lunch at Orient beach: expensive "pizza". If he has you in Marigot anywhere near lunchtime and if you want local food, I'd suggest stopping at one of those restaurants. Spankytree Posted April 15, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2008 Sounds like you did the same thing we did 4/9. John is fantastic and informative. Can't say enough good about this. Great time.

NYHartChapp Posted April 15, 2008 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2008 How many were on your tour? There were about 20 on a very nice-sized bus and with AC.
