Tomcat2245 Posted April 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2008 We will soon be doing a Western Carribbean cruise and we also love to snorkel. Under what conditions will the tour operators cancel a snorkel trip ...... rain? how windy? threat of thunderstorms? In short, how bad does it have to get before they cancel. We'd like to do both shore and catamaran snorkeling in Grand Caymen, Cozumel, Belize, Roatan. Who decides when conditions are not acceptable? Has anyone had problems with a refund? Stevesan Posted April 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2008 The weather has to be pretty bad. You're gonna get wet anyway, so rain's not a deterrent. I recently did two snorkel trips in 25 knot winds, so that's not enough. However, thunder storms w/lightning will definitely cause canx. Occasionally trips are cancelled for jelly fish infestations, but that's rare. In nine years, I've only seen that happen once. If conditions are too bad to snorkel, you're probably not going to do much else, except shop.:o I can personally recommend: Coz - Eagle Ray Divers (snorkelers are welcome, too). http://www.eagleraydivers.com/ http://cozumelinsider.com/ Grand Cayman - Capt Marvin's three stop trip. Shore snorkeling from Eden Rock (near the tender piers) is very good. http://www.captainmarvins.com/ http://www.edenrockdive.com/ Roatan - Anthony's Ket resort for snorkel and dive trips. BTW - shoe snorkeling is good here, too. Tabyana Beach is first rate. http://www.anthonyskey.com/ Hurricane Wilma did a lot of damage to Cozumel's near shore reefs, so shore snorkeling ain't what it used to be. Fortunately, the off shore reefs suffered little damage. From personal experience I can report that Columbia, Palancar and Punta Sur reefs are still great.
