CruiseAddict58 Posted April 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We are booked for July 12th on the Carnival Liberty. I have read 2 posts today that mentioned there are no longer any formal nights. I thought on a 7-day cruise there were usually 2 formal nights. Has this been discontinued. SunnyinMA Posted April 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2008 They just changed the name to elegant evening or something. This is from carnival.com: Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs). Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, and sleeveless shirts for men. Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats. WOW...this makes packing much easier by not having to have dress clothes for dinner everynight. On our last cruise, that did get to be a little much and made us take much more clothing because after dinner we would always go back and change clothes to attend other things on the ship. So, thanks very, very much. Guess I need to read the website since we haven't been on Carnival in a couple of years.
tinetine Posted April 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Just got off the Liberty a 6 day cruise. We had two formal nights. I know the dress code has changed, but they said absolutely no shorts and we got off the Liberty on Saturday. I did notice jeans, but no shorts and they did turn away some shorts

We didn't plan on wearing shorts anyway, but the idea of nice dress jeans is very appealing! And these days...nice jeans cost more than dress pants.. tinetine Posted April 14, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 14, 2008 My husband enjoyed wearing jeans with a nice shirt. Which he only wore the jeans one night, but enjoyed it. Im not sure why they changed the dress code on the web site, because they sure didnt really follow it on the ship.
babs125 Posted April 14, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 14, 2008 We're just off the Liberty, too! Had a great time. There was one woman two seats over who came to dinner 3 out of the 6 nights with a bathing suit on. It was a two piece--the bottoms had a skirt that barely covered her butt and the top had spaghetti straps. She wore a sweater over it on 2 of the nights but it was definitely a bathing suit. We were on the upper level and I don't think they checked that entrance as closely as the main one but I do know the asst. maitre'd was turning away people with shorts on if she saw them.
