What are your choices for ships? All of the mass market lines, NCL, RCI, Carnival, Princess, etc. are going to offer you an opportunity to have a great time. All will have kid and adult activities, entertainment, etc.

The main difference will be in the dining style. Most of the lines will offer traditional 6:00 or 8:00 dining times. NCL will offer main restaurants and alternate restaurants in which you go to dinner where and when you wish. Which is nice on port intensive itineraries as you don't have to rush back to the ship to get dressed for dinner.

So your first thing is to compare the itineraries, find one within your budget, then read about the ships to compare which you think you would prefer. They will all offer pretty much comparable products.

As for cabin? That's up to your budget. Since the Med cruises are very port intensive you'll be out and about for a major part of the day and probably exausted at night. If you aren't opposed to having no window an inside room will work fine. A window, an Oceanview room, will give you just that. A window to be able to tell whether its morning or night. A balcony of course gives you a little extra space for relaxing and then there are suites. All of this would depend on how much your budget is and what you felt comfortable in spending.

Good luck! So many choices I know how hard it can be. But narrowing it down by itinerary then reading about the different ships should help. Again, they're all going to give you a great cruise.:)
