Children on RCCL

I'm going on my first Cruise on the IOS in September, I read that RCCL are very family friendly. Does this mean there will be lots of Children on the Cruise?

Totally depends on if school is in session. Summer, Thanksgiving week, etc have a lot of kids. In Sept not as many kids, and many will probably be pre-school age.

 

We booked the week after Thanksgiving since our DD is not in school yet. Price is much cheaper for a 3rd person and not as many teens on board.

Most school systems will be in session in September. Here in TN, our kids go back the middle of August. There will be some, but not as many as spring break and summer months.

We've gone in Sept. for the last two years and haven't noticed a big crowd of kids. My kids were in the group for 8-10 and they said there were over a thousand kids onboard but it wasn't real crowded. I think after the first day the kids settle into the programs and they seem spread out. I know we hardly saw ours for 7 days!

Every cruise we go on though I always see kids smaller than mine out walking the ship unsupervised. I will never get that. I can understand going straight from the kids area to the room but not just free to do as they please for hours on end.

But to answer your question no, I don't think there were alot of kids. Maybe in the summer but I will never go in the summer so I wouldn't know. I'll tell you where to go if you want to go on a ship with out kids...when we went on the NCL Pride of America in December ther were less than 100 kids onboard. My kids were the only ones in the kids club one day. I felt so bad but we had booked a motorcycle tour and couldn't cancel. NCL does not work their kids areas the same way as Royal. Their kids area are not open while in port unless you pay. That's crazy! Now, after saying that, I would never ever go on NCL ever again. They are NOT like RCCL. Did I go off subject?:cool: Sorry.

Personally I've noticed that parents of younger children (not in school yet) tend to take advantage of the Sept prices. But those with older children (teens) aren't comfortable with pulling their kids out of school so soon after the start of it.

 

We always take a vacation in September, but my kids are still young. We won't be on your cruise though. ;)

 

But No, your cruise won't be overrun with kids.

We have to cruise when schools are out because I work in a school. Although there tends to be a lot of kids then, we stick to the more adult areas and are okay. If you have kids and they are looking for friends, they will have not trouble. I find that those with kids and without do well on RCI.

We travel in January and there are children but not as much as there would be is school was out of session. Even though it seems that the staff that takes care of kids are wonderful. One evening we had a group of children (between 5 and 9) come parading through the casino dressed up like pirates yelling "pirates rule". They were weaving in and out of the slot machines and were adorable. They had to adults in the front leading the way, two in the middle of the group and two more at the end of the line to keep an eye on the kids.

There will still be kids -- pre-school age, home-schooled kids, kids who have different school schedules, kids whose parent's choose to pull them from school, etc.

 

If you are travelling with kids, rest assured that there generally are some kids on all cruises. If you are attempting to avoid children, be aware that there are generally some kids on all cruises.

We have cruised a few times in Septermber and never had a problme with too many children. The ones we did see were very well behaved.

If you are trying to avoid kids, cruise while school is in session, utilize the solarium pool rather than the main pool, and select late rather than early dining. Also avoid the video aracde room and mini golf area. :cool:

On Voyager, two weeks ago, there were 1,200 passengers 18 or younger.

 

Three of them were in my family ... but I must say, the ship didn't seem overrun by kids.
