m steve Posted April 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2008 When we took a cruise a FEW YEARS AGO i NOTICED A dfs AT THE PIER BEFORE BOARDING AND HAVE READ ABOUT PEOPLE BUYING THERE BEFORE THE CRUISE. wE WILL BE STOPPING AT sAN jUAN DURING OUR CRUISE AND WONDER IF IT PAYS TO BUY ANYTHING THERE OR LIMIT OUR PURCHASES TO sT. tHOMAS. aNY EXPERIENCE? If you are embarking on Royal Caribbean, there is a check point on deck immediately after you board the ship. They were "confiscating" liquor from carry ons, including purchases made right there at the pier duty free shop. Sealed bottles are held and not returned until debarkation. Water bottles, iced tea bottles, etc. that contained alcohol were discarded. RCI is pretty strict. Other cruise lines appear to be more liberal with their policy.
