jms2362 Posted April 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2008 Does anyone know about the Lainston House near Wichester. We were looking into it for possibly staying there the night before leaving for Southampton for Independence of the Seas on June 28th?
PEJ Posted April 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2008 Yeah it's OK. A sort of old stately home I think out in the countryside. Not particularly close to Southampton or Winchester. Is that what you want - a countryside retreat?
jms2362 Posted April 22, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 22, 2008 No, we have tried to figure out a place that is nice but not right in Southampton. We want to drive the area, go to Stonehenge and Winchester and see the countryside. Any suggestions?
pondhopper Posted April 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2008 Lainston House is beautiful, Margaret Thatcher, George H Bush, and many others stay there when they are in this neck of the woods. If you are going to have a car I would reccomend staying there, its convenient to Stonehenge (about 35 minute drive away) Winchester center (8 minutes) and Southampton (30 minutes). If you don't want a car but want somewhere nice Hotel Du Vin in downtown WInchester is nice or Wykeham Arms Pub which has lovely rooms across the street from thr pub. In Southampton I would go for the De Vere (http://www.devere-hotels.com/our-hotels/grand-harbour/the-hotel) or Hilton. I live in WInchester and am partial to the Wyk or Lainston depending on whether you want quaint or luxury.
