I'm so thrilled. We got the call. Up sold from BA to the penthouse suite.

Never thought we'd get the call, but we did.

Now we are going to g see what all the perks are about.

Seems like you are very lucky indeed:cool: . Have a great cruise.

Congrats! Which type of penthouse suite did you get? After cruising in our first penthouse suite, my husband now won't cruise in anything less than an AE -- he likes all the perks and the pampering!

Enjoy the Star and Alaska!:D

We are in the AE Penthouse. What are the perks? Do you get to board early? How much do you tip the butler? We are in the aft on the back, my husband was thrilled when he talked to the upsell fairy.

Husband wants to order me flowers for the room. Was wondering if this is included with the AE suite?

Any information from anyone who's been in a suite. We are first time suites.

I have only cruised a couple of times. I had a question that is probably known to you veteran cruisers. Is there a certain type of cabin that gets the upgrade call? We're booked in a balcony cabin, BB. Do these cabins ever get an upsell? Thanks for responding.

From what I've seen, any cabin excluding Owners suites and above have recieved the call. Called once when we were in BC and once in BD.

Hi, vegascruises! We were in AE 8170 on the Star in 2006 and since this was a corner penthouse, we really enjoyed our wrap around balcony (and also the delicious aromas from the bakery a few decks below).

Yes, when you get to Pier 66 in Seattle, you should go to the "VIP and Suite" check-in area. There is a VIP lounge where you'll wait until the Star is ready to be boarded and you will be among the first to be onboard.

The perks are changing relative to the Freestyle 2.0 updates, but yes, we had a lovely bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne waiting in our room. As many previous posts have indicated, you tip the butler depending on how much you use him. We had a couple of breakfasts in our penthouse but that was about all.

Have you seen the list of Freestyle 2.0 perks?

Hi Vegas ! Congrats...

If you don't mind me being nosey, can I ask how much they asked in price to go from B_ to AE ? Also, what itinerary are you on? Not exact dates, but just general run info...

I'm trying to figure out how the Upsell Fairy does her magical job :-)

Thanks,

Tom

My suggestion to you is to go to NCL.com and on their main page is a changing display in the left upper side of the page. Click on the (+) and you will see a link for freestyle 2.0. That will go over a lot of the perks with having a suite.

I can tell you we have always had a suite. With NCL the perks I enjoy the most are priority boarding. Once you are on board, your butler will escort you to your suite while others may have to wait until 1:30 or 2 to get to their cabins.

Also we have always been able to book the specialty restaurants as far in advance as we wanted to, once on board. I believe others have to wait until the day before they want to eat at a specialty restaurant or the morning of... something like that.

The bathrooms.. OH MY GOSH.. hands down you will LOVE the bathroom you will have as opposed to just a regular cabin. Also, there have always been fresh flowers in our room, a bottle of champagne, snacks delivered daily, etc. I do think with freestyle 2.0 those will be available to the balcony cabins as well.

Also you will be able to get off the ships first when you go to ports of call. You will have VIP passes that allow you to skip the huge lines to get off the ship.

One suggestion I have as far as tipping the butler.. We always tip the butler around $10.00 a day for each day of the cruise. So for a 7 day cruise we typically tip $80.00 just to round it off. We always give the butler 1/2 the tip the first day of the cruise and tell him we are giving him this now to show him we appreciate him, and let him know we will give him more at the end of the cruise. I believe on the last cruise we were on we actually tipped the guy $100 or $120 because he was AMAZING. For instance I was going through two bottles of sparkling water a day from the ones you pay for that they leave in your room. After like the second day the butler told me not to use any more of those because we were charged 5 or 6 bucks each. He said he would bring me bottles and keep me stocked.. and he did.

You will also need to tip the concierge. There have been times we have tipped the concierge as much, or close to, what we tipped the butler. However I would say just tip based on how much you use him or her and what they do for you. The last cruise, not so much. She was adorable and very sweet, but never available for when we needed her. EVERY DAY we would go to our cabin and there would be a card or note from her saying that she had come by the cabin and missed us. I told her 100 times, to find us, look in the casino.. lol.. she never did. So we didn't tip this last one like we normally do.

Hope all of this helps you. I really think you will be very pleased you took the upgrade.

We got the suite for $300 total for the upgrade. This is our first time in the suite. Always wanted to but, only got the balcony cabin. Never in a million years did we think we'd get the call from the upgrade fairy. Thanks for the information on tipping the butler.

May never want to leave. Will now have to "always" book a suite.

Maybe NCL has that in mind. Once you get there, there is no turning back. lol

Congrats! The only problem we've had with upsells is that once you sail in a suite you don't ever go back to a balcony!

We've been lucky to get the "call" twice (AF to AB/Dawn and AB to A3 Pearl). This time, we booked VERY close to sail date (at least for us since I usually book 6-9 months out:eek: ) and I wasn't going to take any chances so we grabbed an AD Romance suite! I did make my TA aware that we would be open to an upsell but........not sure I'd upsell now to an AB since we've never had an AFT suite and it seems that these are great suites.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! And please wave to my son who is stationed in Alaska with the Army and tell him Mom sends her love.........As of last Friday, the weather has "broken" in Fairbanks with temps up the high 40's and beautiful skies........

We boked our cruise thru NCL. Not sure if that's the reason we got our upsell. But, I'd rather book directly then with an online travel agency.

Guess it's a personal thing.

We are going to live it up for the week in our suite. Never going back. Booking my next cruise a suite.

Has any one been offered an upsell if they were part of a large group? Have sailed in the Garden Villa and like everyone said once you go that way it is hard to just have a balconey. I dont want to take a chance of an upsell if they dont like to pick people from a group, but if I could get a bargain I might chance it.

I called NCL and asked about the upsell. The gal told me that they will not call you directly if you booked through an agent, be it online or otherwise. They will, however, contact the agent and make the offer through them. I called the online agency we booked through and the guy said that they do indeed get calls from NCL and they immediately pass the offer on. Why wouldn't they, it means more money for them! :-)
