What is a roll call?

Cruisetowin,

Cruise Critic has established special message boards so that passengers booked on a particular sailing of a cruise line can interact. These message boards are called "Roll Call" boards. It is basically a "who is sailing with me?" thing.

Each cruise line has a Roll call board, the postings are segregated by ship, and then by sailing date.

The way that it works is that one (usually early booking) passenger, like yourself, sets up an initial post (listing the sailing date, starting and ending ports), then, others sailing on the same cruise post messages.

The messages run the gamut: the cost and availabiity of transfers, sharing tours at ports of call, how to dress, how much to tip......oh, and a huge topic is bringing liquor on the ship (Oceania allows this, some mass market lines don't).

On our last Oceania cruise (the Regatta in the Caribbean), the Roll Call got more than 2000 views and a couple of hundred posts. It is a lot of fun cyber-meeting your shipmates and then putting a face to the name, onboard.

Remember: Getting there is half the fun!
