Kurbanfan Posted April 25, 2008 #76 Share Posted April 25, 2008 If other women chose to wander the ship in sloppy jeans or sweats, then we'll just look that much better. But it isn't about what others think of us. It's about how great we feel about ourselves! Or men;) I agree I hate sloppy. Sloppy is not a style of clothes;)
VentureMan_2000 Posted April 25, 2008 #77 Share Posted April 25, 2008 If anyone in my office wore a suit, we would assume they were going on a job interview! :D Whenever I wear a suit at work and someone asks me if I'm interviewing... I am always quick to respond, "ABSOLUTELY!" :D
VentureMan_2000 Posted April 25, 2008 #78 Share Posted April 25, 2008 H, Sorry, Game over. Slobs 100 Formals 0 Carnival doesn't want or deserve my fight. I'll wear my tux on other lines. Dan I agree... Carnival totally screwed up on this one... Now instead of using Walmart in reference to Carnival, Folks will now just say that Carnival squeels like a little piggy. deborahjo Posted April 25, 2008 #79 Share Posted April 25, 2008 One of the reasons that we cruise is formal night. Gives you a change to get all gussed up and look priddy. LOL We love formal night. That is the night I love to people watch the most. We sat in the hallway outside the casino on the Liberty last october and watched the parade of people and their formal wear. Made for some great conversations.
trock Posted April 25, 2008 #80 Share Posted April 25, 2008 The rest of the time, I'm in jeans. Never go out in public in sweats. Ever. Sheesh, doesn't anyone watch "What Not to Wear?" :p NO ONE! And Stacy and what's his name, are always right! ;)

Yes even outdoors;) Now granted most don't wear them to a restaurant for dinner. But you will see many wear them shopping and traveling. Especially on airplanes.......... Actually I will be looking for a new pair this weekend for our Vegas trip;)
dan40 Posted April 25, 2008 #82 Share Posted April 25, 2008 Hi Trock & Halos! Thank you for the kudos! It is eye opening when you are told that you have an 80% blockage in one of your arteries! The feeling of inmortality goes "poof"! I have a stent now and I am so grateful that God has given me a second chance. Another perk: All this exercising on a daily basis and eating right is actually fun! My trainer comes to my home twice a week and puts me through delicious torture. I have turned my 2-car garage into a gym! Bowflex, treadmill, bike, kettlebells, TRX cord, etc. Oops, I hijacked the thread, my apologies to the OP and to all others! Lee:D Hah! Pfaaf! One little stent, I got two, so there. :D It WAS fun being "immortal" while it lasted. :( Congrats on your recovery. :) 8 years now for me. triplee Posted April 25, 2008 #83 Share Posted April 25, 2008 Hello Dan40, Trock & Halo, Dan, way to go! When I get as old as you I will have something to look forward to! LOL!!!;) Seriously, congratulations on getting past your two procedures. I hope I have had my last! Trock & Halo, I am insane! I have started to really like working out hard and watching my nutrient intake. 2,000 calories a day, net (after exercising). If y'all are interested, let me know and I will give you information. But thanks for confirming my wife's suspicions about my sanity (or lack thereof)!!!! I hope to cruise with y'all someday! We could have a blast!:D Lee
triplee Posted April 25, 2008 #84 Share Posted April 25, 2008 Hi AlvinF, I just go to my local "Men's Wearhouse" and ask them to measure me each time (losing weight), they write the measurements for me. I then call Carnival's Guest Services and ask to reserve a tux in my size. They need your measurement, your booking #, ship, date, etc. When you are all settled in your cabin, you can then go to the formal shop aboard ship and pick up everything you have reserved. I have reserved black tux, a white dinner jacket, shirt, shoes and accessories. I paid $129 for a week. I thought it was very reasonable and I did not have to pack anything! I will be reserving again for this B-2-B cruise in Sept. We will be having 4 formal nights aboard the Glory! Hope this helps! Lee
sassyredhat Posted April 25, 2008 #85 Share Posted April 25, 2008 I won't go "black tie", but I'm definitely still going to wear a sportscoat and tie on formal night and slacks and collared shirt on non-formal night. Regardless of Carnivals rules I'd like to look good. That's how I'd dress is I was going to a nice restaurant around here.... Ditto for us ! :) Pat
CBussey64 Posted April 25, 2008 #86 Share Posted April 25, 2008 Since we don't have the opportunity to dress in a tux/gown/cocktail dresses much at home, we will continue to do so when we cruise again. I love seeing what everyone else wears, it's like a nice fashion show.

nolaAlive Posted April 25, 2008 #90 Share Posted April 25, 2008 I don't see what all the fuss is about. The Me Me Me cult can wear formal clothes EVERY NIGHT and eat in the dining rooms. If they are overdressed, they do not have to eat in the Lido. What's the problem? :p
Gingee Posted April 25, 2008 #91 Share Posted April 25, 2008 We are still planning on dressing up. We aren't wearing formals though but we weren't planning on it since we have a long trip ahead of the cruise and also because we found some short dresses we like. I'm not old, just because I was born a lot of years ago. Nearly worn out from multi abuses, but not old. :D Every day I'm reminded of that old saying, "If I had known I was going to last this long, I'd have taken better care of myself!":rolleyes: And I'm going to start..................soon. scopewest Posted April 25, 2008 #93 Share Posted April 25, 2008 I just got off the Elation. Maybe it was our location (all the way to the back, table for four, loved it) but I didn't notice people dressing like slobs on formal night around us. I'd say 80 percent of the women wore some shade of black. The only black tie I saw was the groom of the wedding we went to onboard before the ship sailed, he wore it again on formal night. I think most men were wearing suits. To be honest I was too busy stuffing my face and then finding a seat for the show to notice what people were wearing. Sorry. Carolyn1950 Posted April 25, 2008 #94 Share Posted April 25, 2008 We will still dress up.. I love the way my hubby looks in his tux.. Very James Bond-ish.. Last month on the Ecstasy on formal night, there were 2 women at the front of the line right at the door that had on jean shorts and blouses over a bathing suit.. You would have to had been blind not to notice them.. But they sailed right by to their table.. A moment later they were forgotten, I was too busy figuring out whether or not I wanted lobster.. One thing I enjoy is sitting by the aisle and watching folks go by.. I love formal night..
KatSt Posted April 25, 2008 #95 Share Posted April 25, 2008 So I'm away for a few months, and now I'm hearing that Carnival's dropping Formal for Elegant? Ugh. I didn't really care much when other people chose to dress down -- as long as it was called FORMAL night I still felt appropriate in my tuxedo and loved having my rare opportunity to do so. But if it's no longer 'formal', I'm not sure a tux makes sense anymore, even though Carnival will be gracious enough to "allow" it. So for those of you who like the idea of formal: will you still dress as though it were Black Tie, or will you go down to dressy? We will still dress for formal night. Emerald31 Posted April 25, 2008 #96 Share Posted April 25, 2008 I wear a uniform 5 days a week, for me part of the joy of cruising is wearing my formal clothes. I will still dress up in my formals even though Carnival has changed the dress code.
