Flying Lessons in Talkeetna

I am a student pilot and I am interested in taking a flying lesson while we are in Talkeetna. Does anyone know of any good flying schools where I can get a lesson?

Most of the flying services in Talkeetna are very busy doing flightseeing during the summer. In addition, they may not have instructors on staff, only commercial licensed pilots. Your best bet would be to take a lesson from one of the flight schools at Merrill Field in Anchorage. You might even be able to get a floatplane lesson in Anchorage.

Thanks for the info. Got to admit that a Float Plane lesson in Anchorage would be cool.

You won't get an actual float lesson unless you already hold at least a Private SE license, as floats is an endorsement on top of that.

The two major operators in Talkeetna are K2 and Talkeetna Aero Taxi. A google search will find them pretty quickly. Suggest calling them with your question. They probably have CFI's but planes and staff may be busy flying tours during the summer.

 

Also check sites like Airnav and Flightaware to find a list of FBO's in the area. It will be a cool entry in your logbook! :)

Sorry, just want to clarify. Flight instructors are commercial pilots. The commercial license is a prerequisite to becoming a flight instructor. For most pilots, flight instructing is a transitional position. You'll find very few 'career' instuctors.

 

Yukon is right. Unlikely you'll get a floatplane lesson if you don't already have your private. It would be cool to take a lesson on a wheeled plane though.
