Help with Ketchikan

I will be sailing on the Star Princess on May 18th, and we have arranged all of our shore ex, but have decided to "wing it" in Ketchikan and do it one our own. Outside of exploring Creek Street and doing some shopping, does anyone have any suggestions that doesn't involve a full blow tour of some kind? Thanks a bunch!

We did the same one year and had a lot of fun. We walked up to the

lumberjack show and paid admission at the store. It worked out good for us

and really enjoyed the show.

We walked around town and walked up to the fish hatchery ... The

hatchery was not a big deal. But we really enjoyed walking and seeing

the town.

The town also has a red and blue lines bus which take you around town. If

you there on the weekend only one of the lines runs. I don't recall right now

which one it is.

Check out Ketchikan page ...

We went kayaking with Southeast Kayak. It lasted around two or three hours (if memory serves me correctly...it was six years ago) and it was a great time. We got to row past the lumberjack show and under the bridges to get up-close to the town shops. It was a fun time and our guide was great. It was also helpful that we had a really sunny day...which is a rarity in that port.

The rest of the time we simply walked around town and browsed the shops. They're so quaint and the town is so adorable that we were happy with our day in that port.

If your cruise stops in Juneau and you want to do a flight or heli tour to a glacier, it costs a pretty penny so in my opinion, saving the money on any sort of tour in Ketchikan is a way of spending it on a more expensive tour in Juneau or even the Yukon tour in Skagway.

Just a thought! :)
