Counter-attack the chair hogs!!!

Recommended Posts

This thread is inspired by a post from superjerryw on the To all chair hogs thread...

I read a year back some great, funny, for the purpose of entertaining only, recommendations of how to deal with the ole chair hog problem.

What things do you do to counter-attack the chair hogs??? icon_biggrin.gif

My group is going to get out there as soon as the chairs are set up and reserve all the chairs! icon_redface.gif If someone wants one from us they have to sign a contract that they will use it and not abandon it for more than 59 minutes. If they do, the contract expires and their stuff will be confiscated and thrown overboard! icon_biggrin.gif

AD - I was thinking the same thing - lots of bean and beef burritos and crab cakes at the buffet before going out on the pool deck.

Phew! Stinky! But if they're chair hogs, will they be around to smell the fruits of your labor? Or will their towels take the heat...? icon_confused.gif Karen

Take the chair with all their belongings...and slide it to a completely different area on the deck...then slide a new one into its position...sit there and wait for them to return!!! Hey...you didn't take the chair...you just moved it.

Yep, a certain amount of luck comes into play. If there are no culprits around, I may have to spend some extra time in the Jacuzzi. icon_cool.gif

BTW, this is free advice. It also works for rude people in lines or elevators. icon_biggrin.gif

I saw a MOST spectacular brouhaha last summer at a hotel pool in Las Vegas. A battle broke out between a group of "chair hogs" and "claims jumpers" that took the physical intervention of several hotel guards and the ejection of all parties involved. It was the best free entertainment I've even seen in Vegas. There was screamin', there was cussin', there was pushin'. I do believe there was a fair amount of drinkin' involved, too. I don't know what the solution is....it's an ongoing problem at any resort. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable charge to rent a chair for the week, so it would be available when I want it (that's the way they did it in the "old days" on cruise ships). You see the same thing with "table hogs" at attractions. There's a long line at the food counter, so people stand in line and send one of their party to sit at an empty table holding it hostage for a half-hour, while people stand around balancing overloaded trays, waiting for a table to open up.

We do this at malls... is it bad? icon_eek.gif I'll make sure not to do this on the ship, I had no idea it was bad!

I'm very concerned about these chair hogs. I want to sit when I want to sit. I hope we won't have that issue, but it seems to be one everyone says happens.

Meter maids are a good idea, however, with all those white legs, how could you tell who was "chalked" and who wasn't? icon_cool.gif

DedeM...my name is dentalchic...and I am a recovering table hog...lol.

I've got to admit...I do this...we are a family of four...and we'll have one jump on a table...let the other 3 go up...and then the last person will go up when they come with their food. Keep in mind...the table is being saved for a minute or two. I don't really have a big problem with this...because if I didn't I can guarantee you my 8 year old would wind up dumping his food on someone's lap in the process of waiting to be seated. What I do have a problem with is the people who are done eating...and stay seated at a table...by themselves...they always find a nice big table...to lay out the daily newspaper on...and just sit their reading for an hour...while people have come with the intention of eating...after all that is what we do in the Windjammer. There are plenty of areas on the ship to read your paper or book...lovely seating areas in the Atrium...but no...the Windjammer...that gets my goat (OK I just heard my Dad come out in me there with that saying...lol)

Kindly move their stuff to the side. Sit and enjoy yourself. When they show up say you thought saving their chairs with more than a crumpled t-shirt and a book was better looking. Then simply move to another set of chairs being saved close by and perform your value added service.

Ask a wandering, snivleing ,ice cream eating, whining, walkie talkie blithering ,obnoxious kiddie in the chair . I Guarantee at least a few available chairs on each side of the unattended child. icon_wink.gif

Howdy all. I am a first time cruiser heading out on the Rhapsody in May. Is there a way to tell the difference between a chair-hog "saved" chair, and one actually in use but the person is in the pool for instance. How long do you "watch" a set of chairs before deciding they are fair game and taking over?
