winddawn Posted May 12, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2008 It has been a few years since I have cruised to Bahamas. We have been doing Eastern Caribbean lately. It was when Fantasy was still calling in Bahamas. That tells you how long ago it has been for me, but I believe they still do allow that. The Cruise Ship Act passed in Bahamas in November 1995 allowing this. I found this statement about it online: "Seeking to address the decrease in cruise ships overnighting in Nassau, the Government also passed the Cruise Ship (Overnighting Incentive) Act in November 1995, allowing cruise ships to open their stores and casinos while in port. In order to benefit from this act, however, cruise ships must be in port a minimum of 18 hours. Although the Act has not encouraged ships to change their schedules to stay in port on Sundays, they are staying longer and passengers are venturing on shore to sample Bahamian culture and participate in local activities. According to surveys conducted by the Nassau Tourism Development Board, businesses in the downtown area have reported increases in sales as a result of the new incentives." This is why I read these boards. I'm impressed at the wealth of information that is provided.

Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted May 13, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 13, 2008 The Sensation is one ship which really benefits from this - they overnight in Nassau. The casino opens at 7 PM (till "close"). The ship leaves early the next morning. Just to be sure - we will confirm this AGAIN later next week :D :D Tom
