2 days pre-cruise MIA

Have one full day/night before meeting up with my group - thinking of renting a car...where should we go? After reading hotel reviews not thrilled about staying in downtown or near airport in Miami. Looking for nice place, maybe the beach (FLL?). Trip is in February.

Thanks.

February is going to be really tough because it's high season and also the Super Bowl is being held in Tampa which means people will be flocking to the state for the game and a lot will be cruising. If you are looking for a nice area to stay, you may want to look a little further north around Boca Raton. We used to live there and there are some very nice hotels in very SAFE areas there. If you want Miami, we have personally booked a room at the Summerfield Suites near the airport in a good area. They are apartment style with a kitchen and separate bedroom at a reasonable price (for us in September it was $119.00). It's close enough to everything. There is so much to do in the area (tours, beaches, shopping, etc...) that you shouldn't have any trouble finding something to do. I suggest you start pricing rooms now and get something locked in soon. Rooms may be very hard to come by.
