Dancing on Century

The dancing in the Rendez-vous lounge is usually ballroom type music each night on Celebrity ships. They usually play a good mix of fox-trot, cha cha, rumba, swing, waltz, tango, and other ballroom dance music - at least in our experience on most of our Celebrity cruises (there have been a few Celeb cruises recently that had lousy dance music though). However, do not expect those dancing to follow ballroom floor etiquitte (stationary dancers in the middle leaving the edges for those who move around the dance floor in the correct direction). Also, the floor is not very large and we found the best time to dance is before first seating and after second seating when there isn't a crowd. The time between the dinner seatings is extremely crowded and there isn't room to really dance.

You also have to allow for those who "showboat" and monopolise the very small floor...which on Century last time we were aboard..... also has two support pillars near the edges of the dance floor and a band area which is extended onto the dance floor and has very sharp corners.

Trying to dance can be very intimidating for those who have not had the benefit of any dance lessons when they feel they are going to look stupid by comparison with those who have obviously taken dance lessons ....but these selfish dancers are totally incapable of realising this is not the perfect opportunity for demonstration dancing to impress everyone watching.

Social dancing means being able to adjust your space / style to whatever circumstances exist...these "showboat" type dancers ignore everything except their own ego.

Does anyone know if they have dancer escorts on celebrity cruises for those that are single? Thanks

They used to have ....particularly on Transatlantic cruises...but haven't seen any for months now. There was talk way back of these dance hosts being axed so maybe it has actually happened. Cunard still has them.

Thanks lucky. DO you know how I could find out if they still have dance hosts?

You could try your luck phoning Celebrity captain's cluband asking them to find out for you????..if enough people pestered them they might re-instate the hosts...personally I think it was a mistake to cut the service as lots of women like to cruise even without a partner and took advantage of the dance hosts being available in the evenings....the hosts never sat down the whole evening so they earned their keep!
