How did a CVS get my booking info when I booked through a PVP?

I got home tonight and checked my e-mail as usual and received the following e-mail from a cruise vacation specialist (CVS).

My name is *****, a Cruise Vacation Specialist with Carnival Cruise Lines. I have tried to contact you in reference to upgrading your current stateroom for your upcoming cruise on the ship, but I have not been successful. We recently had a few last minute cancellations in our higher category staterooms, and I would like to offer you the opportunity to upgrade. For more information, please contact me personally as soon as possible, as there is very limited availability. I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx-ext. xxxx

Now my problem with the whole thing is how did he get my booking info and contact info when I booked through a particular PVP? I have dealt with no one but the PVP and supervisors with price drops. I've never heard of him, and he has also called and left messages. I'm calling my PVP tomorrow and have him make a note on our bookings not to upgrade. We have our very 1st 9A wrap booked, our kids are right across the hall booked in dd's name (that's how we were able to book in her name because they're right across the hall), and my so's daughter & her husband are in the cabin next door to us. I don't want to be upgraded and it seems like if we were it would change not only our cabin but my dd's as well, not to mention the fact that we wouldn't all be right there together anymore. I'm really not wanting to give up our 9A wrap. Anyone else ever have this happen? I haven't returned any calls or responded to any e-mails from this guy. Any input is appreciated.:)

They are both Carnival Reps and have information to all Carnival booking. ;)

The CVS may have been given the job to contac all personl a a certain sailing in a certain cat. NCL does this all the time it is called Up Selling and they look forward to these calls. It is usually a really good deal with NCL. Doesn't matter if you book with a TA or NCL PVP/CVP. You hope for the calls

bubbles1209,

Two of the pax I booked for our upcoming cruise on Liberty have been contacted and one opted for a $300 upgrade from a 4C interior to an 8C balcony for two rooms. The CVS got them adjoining balcony rooms. The listed price difference is ~$680 per cabin so it was a good deal. There's a ton of suites left for that sailing too, so they may have been able to get a better upgrade. There are ZERO interior cabins left and along with the suites there are balcony cabins on every deck open. Like you, I'll stick with my 9A. ;)

Just got an e-mail back from our PVP. He forwarded my e-mail to his supervisors and apologized to me saying that he's always happy to deal

with us personally. Guess that guy wasn't supposed to get ahold of us? Wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble, but wanted to know who this guy is and how he got our info, that's all. He just e-mailed me again and said his supervisors would find that out and he would let me know.

Carnival is testing a new marketing strategy.

CVS's will be contacting guests who have made new bookings (on the Carnival site, via a PVP, or the 1-800 number) to offer an upgrade.

The reasoning is that many times, guests will be willing to upgrade if they are given just the difference in price, instead of the total cost. For example "you can have that oceanview cabin for just an extra $75 person" sounds much better than "you can have that oceanview cabin for $2,100" (instead of $1950 for an inside)"

In January we had an aft cabin booked on the Glory. We were first time Carnival cruisers. Carnival called the day before to ask if we would upgrade to a penthouse suite. We took the upgrade. On the ship we met the people in our previously booked room who were platinum status and were on a B2B. They and their parents who also were platinum both requested from Carnival that they be allowed to stay in their current rooms after the first half of their B2B. They had booked after we did. Carnival told them both they could stay only if we agreed to move. Carnival called us the Friday before the cruise. We agreed to move to the penthouse suite. They got to stay. The people booked in the parents room said no and the parents had to move and they did not get upgraded to a suite. I thought Carnival handled it perfectly. They were totally respectful of our reservation. I appreciated

their way of handling this situation.

There was no need for emailing the PVP because both CVS and PVP's are making the calls... its a select few of agents that are doing it.

No one is going to upgrade your room without letting you know and asking if its ok.

I've seen someone's room get upgraded before without letting them know and without asking them, it happened to a fellow CC member on our roll call for our Valor Cruise. They had booked a particular balcony cabin, selected their own well in advance, paid off their cruise, and just happened to check their reservation one day and they had been upgraded to a suite without anyone calling and asking first. He raised the roof until he got his original cabin back. ( Now in that case, I would have kept the suite over a 8B balcony cabin mid-ship), However, I won't consider it in my case of having our 9A wrap. So, yes they have and will upgrade you without letting you know sometimes, and I don't feel I was wrong in asking my PVP to put a note on our booking not to upgrade.

PaulMedik,

We're on the same cruise as you - I sure hope we get a call, but might not because we didn't book through Carnival directly.

ruag8tr2,

I'll see if I can find the extenstion number. The gentleman's name is Kevin and my wife spoke with him several times Thursday about bookings we have. He said his job was to make sure the ship sails full. Contact your TA and have them check for you.

That explains the who is this guy & how did he get our booking & contact info question, thanks Paul. That was all I really ever wanted to know, the way the cold calls, PVP's, CVS's, etc. have been going behind each other's backs and things being so "dog eat dog" between them that I've been reading about, just wanted to see who this was, that was all. Seeing what he said his job is explains it all. Thanks:)

I know this post was about upgrades from other PVP or CVS, but I received an email from another PVP and promptly emailed my PVP to let her know someone else was trying to get business from "HER" client. Well, I received a response the next day and come to find out, my PVP that I have dealt with for over 4 years isn't in that department anymore and this person I have no idea about is handling my reservation. I was not a happy camper but all I have left is final payment next month then my cruise in September. I hope my PVP was promoted not booted! She was fantastic and I enjoyed working with her. If this new PVP really wants to prove herself, she can call me and offer to upgrade me to a suite for my L shaped cabin on the Valor! She may even get another booking in the future if that happens.
