lol, you're going to run out and get pregnant real soon after reading all this chatter, aren't you?!? :D

Oh I have morning sickness stories that would make her hair curl. But I'll save them...lol.

Let's just say there is a reason I have just TWO kids.

Yeah really! Hey but I want honest answers so I can't complain when I get them! I feel selfish but I think we may just wait until after the honeymoon cruise to get pregnant. I really want to swim with dolphins, stingrays, turtles, and any other marine life they allow you to be around so apparently that and pregnancy don't go well together.:p To be honest, I am more put off by the babies without diapers in the swimming pool thread than this one.

I think I will have a better feeling once the wedding is over. One thing at a time. We will definitely book it soon, and then we have a long time before final payment, so we will just wait and see (really tough for a super-planner to do!)

I've actually done both.

I took an Alaskan cruise when I was in my 2nd trimester and took a Western Caribbean cruise when I was in my first trimester.

Since this would be your first pregnancy, I would recommend you waiting until your second trimester when some of your energy has returned. I didn't have any trouble with Alaskan excursions when pregnant except that I wasn't sure what to say for "weight" when booking our helicopter ride. The reservationist and I got a good laugh out of that.

I truly enjoyed my first trimester cruise. Yes, I was sick, but I also would have been sick at home and if I was at home I would have also been getting up every morning, putting on a suit and having to go to my full time job. It was nice to have one of those miserable weeks off of work and since I had an almost 2 year old at the time, it was perfect for me. How often, when at home, can you go to bed at 8:00 with your 2 year old and not have cooking, cleaning and other household tasks to worry about? We were traveling with friends, so my husband still had gambling partners, etc and we didn't pay a dime of babysitting. I was thrilled with the relaxation I experienced on my frist trimester cruise.

But, that's just me.

I cruised when I was 11 weeks pregnant. I didn't have bad morning sickness but did find I was a lot more tired than I had expected I'd be. I would highly recommend planning only half-day excursions. Also, I was very sensitive to smells, and the ship I was on (Carnival Liberty) seemed particularly smokey to me. I found myself choosing routes through the ship carefully to try to avoid smokey areas (like the main promenade which led past the casino and a couple of bars that allowed smoking). In terms of morning sickness, mine wasn't bad but I did take ginger capsules and that helped take the edge off for the most part. There were a few times when I was nauseous after tours that went on lots of windy roads, which normally wouldn't have bothered me. In terms of food, I found that being on a cruise was actually really great because I could browse the buffet to see what smelled/looked good to my picky stomach that particular day, and there was always a good variety in the dining room so I didn't have trouble finding something I wanted to eat.

I hope that's helpful information for those considering a cruise while pregnant!

Edited to add: you also don't want to cruise too late in your second trimester, first off because if you have a preemie you're all going to be better off being near a Level III NICU, and second, because the cruise lines don't allow you to cruise after 24 weeks generally. I had my son at 27 weeks and while he's doing fine now, it might have been a different story had I been in the middle of the ocean when my water broke. And I was having a perfectly normal pregnancy right up until the point where my water broke, so you just never know. My cut-off for cruising pregnant would be about 23 weeks, I wouldn't even consider it after that point.

If I had the choice between taking the cruise before I got pregnant and taking it after, I would certainly choose to cruise and then get pregnant! I have done both and while the cruise while pregnant was good (what cruise isnt?) I did feel limited in terms of things you cant do while pregnant. And I definitly was more uncomfortable. Also once the kids come along, you are even more limited as to what you can do. So if you can, cruise now!

For me, if I want to cruise this year, I have to go in the next few months since I am pregnant again or we will have to wait until the baby is 6 months which would be next June. I am waiting until 20-23 weeks to make sure I feel better. Right now there is no way I could cruise. I agree with Crusinmama about the morning sickness...I am only having two kids, this will be my last :)

In November 2003 I cruised aboard Celebrity Horizon at 4.5 mos preg. In May 2006 I took a vacation to Mexico at 3.5 mos. preg. I never got "morning sickness" or even all day sickness (but, everyone is different). I did get tired easily and I took naps in the early afternoon.

My biggest problem on the cruise was that I was "off balance" (I tripped over the edge of the pool and fell on an old lady sunning herself and I kicked someone in the pool by accident just trying to stay afloat). By your second trimester, you may find yourself walking into walls. I do not recommend trying rock climbing or ice skating, but other ship-board activities and almost all excursions should not be a problem.

The other problem I had was feeling comfortable in a bikini. Gee...I wonder why? :D

I recommend not worrying about your conception vs cruise time. Just book when you want to go. Most cruises allow you to cancel within 3 months of sailing without losing most of your payment--right? so if your sail date is in the third trimester, you should know LONG before the cancellation period.

Unless you are like my MIL and do not find our you are pregnant until the 5th month during an annual checkup...then you are just plain dumb to the hundreds of signals you're body is telling you that you are pregnant. And if you are TRYING to get pregnant, then you will probably be WELL aware of these signals long before your last trimester.

Go! Have Fun!

That's good advice--thanks!:)
