Has the Juneau power crisis affected cruise tourism?

Like ... do the pubs operate in the dark? ... or what's happening since they lost their hydroelectric dam?

They pay a lot more for electricity, but they have electricity. It is (I think) diesel powered.

 

As you can see from the link, they didn't lose a dam...they lost the transmission lines.

We noticed reduced lighting in some shops and restaurants.

Some stores have less lights on, but we've been lucky to have sunny skies the past few days...those cruising up here this weekend are really lucky!

Hopefully it will be better by the time we get up there in September, since it will be getting dark earlier again by then.

They actually are thinking we should have our hydro power back in June...if things aren't back to normal by Sept...well then us locals are going to be broke.

We just got back from our 4th cruise to Alaska. If we wouldn't have heard about the power problems we wouldn't have noticed anything unusual. Dave and Elaine
