The Yucatan State is very safe. With so many tours available, why a taxi with such limited time? Remember, traveling alone you will have to pay for entry and pay your guide as well as the taxi.

A taxi ride to chichen is US$200 p/car (up to 4 pax, if more pax you will need a van add US$50 more), entrance fee to chichen US$10 p/pax, guide in english at the site (if available) US$60. Some other choices are buying a cruise tour or try autoprogreso, you can find them right before taking the free shuttle to downtown progreso at the pier, or their web www.autoprogreso.com . If you choose the taxi, try to get off the ship as early as you can because the whole tour is for around 6 hrs (2hrs drive per way). Hope it helps to your plans.
