LegalCat Posted May 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2008 We are leaving on Thursday morning for a saturday sailing on PoAm... I was wondering if any one had any suggestions specifically relating to the ship... such as hidden doors or whatever :)
hawaiilvr Posted May 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2008 If you want to use the treadmills, go early and you can watch the ship come into shore while running on the treadmill. It was awe inspiring to me - especially coming into Hilo with that giant snow-covered volcano towering over the city. Call the restaurants directly to make reservations. We always made reservations for late - around 8:30 in the Italian restaurant and Lazy J - we wanted the extra time in town vs. eating early on the ship. The tv's have the menus for the main restaurants. The Cadillac Diner has the best brownies ever! The piano player in Pinkn's Champagne Bar is awesome (if he's still there). The La Nai Bar and Lounge on deck 13 is virtually undiscovered. It is beautiful and has to-die-for views. Don't know about any hidden doors, but if you are looking for a nice quiet spot on the ship, the library and the conservatory can't be beat. The library is beautiful. Spend as much time in town as possible... Kona coffee is cheaper at Wal-Mart than anywhere else... The Mauna Loa factory in Hilo has "seconds" of chocolate covered macademia nuts in bags for half price which are great for snacking on... The Aloha swap meet on Oahu is a shoppers delight... Don't miss snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay near Kona... Splurge on a helicopter ride on Kauai if you can afford it... Watch out for roosters and chickens - they are everywhere on Kauai... Louise45 Posted June 1, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 1, 2008 Hate to burst your bubble, but you can cross out the brownie in the Cadillac Diner. See this very informative, not yet finished review from a cruiser who just got back. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=783914 I couldn't believe it when I read it, even the onion rings everyone talked about are gone! cmpaula Posted June 1, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2008 Be sure and make a reservation in the main dining room on lobster night! You can also make reservations (and should) in the other free restaurants like the Italian eatery. The tempanyaki eatery was fabulous and well worth the extra charge. You can bring sodas on board so if your first port is Hilo...get them at the Walmart. Enjoy!
