cruisersmom Posted May 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2008 affecting cruise ships as they try to go into various ports? Wondered if ports were blockaded, etc?
Sea Island Lady Posted May 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2008 I have not heard anything about any European port strikes. Could you be more specific, please? ;)
Maryandi Posted May 31, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2008 There is a thread written by 'travelinjones' who are in Europe now on the Prinsendam. They tell of ports closed by the strike in France. However, they were happy with the substitute port (s) and extra time there. MaryAnn
Ine Posted May 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2008 I think it was not really a strike, more a big protest (blockades) by french fisherman because of the extreme high costs of fuel in Europe. Protests like that may occur on highways, ports etc. in some countries this summer if prices stay that high. People hope their goverments will decrease the high taxes on this. Sea Island Lady Posted May 31, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2008 I just read about this in the morning news. Seems that even some taxi and bus drivers are getting in on the striking. I hope this doesn't affect our private drivers. I guess we will be tipping them a bit more than we thought. The gas in Turkey is over $11 a gallon!
