pandi77 Posted June 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2008 My husband and I just booked our first suite (and first aft cabin) on the Gem in May 09'. We booked Penthouse suite and are excited to hear previous advice and/or descriptions of this type of room. What type of perks should we expect, and does anyone have any photos of an aft suite on this or a similar NCL ship? Thanks for any input... pandi77 Posted June 5, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Thank you so very much! Is the replenishment of springwater at no charge? What is envolved with night-in suite dining? And lastly, if you recall could you describe the breakfast menu options, my husband adores breakfast by room service. I really appreciate your great info! And lastly, if you recall could you describe the breakfast menu options, my husband adores breakfast by room service. I really appreciate your great info! The spring water is not free to replenish...I think it is 2.50 for a replacement but it is a LARGE bottle..... The Room service menu is as follows 1) Eggs are cooked a few ways, Hard Boiled, scrambled, scrambled with cheese (like an omlette). 2) Different types of fruit 3) Choice of Coffee, orange juice, tomato juice, apple juice 4) Several types of breads and bagels-muffins-danishes 5) Hot or cold cereal I think this is it but I may be missing something John

I just want to verify this - sodas are refilled without charge in the suites? I've read about this but didn't know what category this starts with (we are in an AB next week). DMH15 Posted June 5, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 5, 2008 I too am a bif fan of breakfast! I have read with the Freestyle 2.0 that the suites have Lavazza coffee in them (with a coffeemaker). I have had that coffee and it is really good. In-suite full breakfast was one of the main reasons I opted fro my first PH. I do low carbs and the regular room service breakfast is continental (aka only carbs). I also recall on the Jewel last year having to get up early and rush to make dinner reservations for my group. I understand that will be arranged for me upon my request. Ahhhh.... Enjoy your pPH

I've read about this but didn't know what category this starts with (we are in an AB next week). Sorry, but no. That's only for the Owner's Suites (AA), Deluxe Owner's Suites (A2), and Garden Villas (A1). On some ships, the Courtyard Villas (A3/A4) have received complimentary bottled waters and sodas (we did, but that was several months ago), but not all. Other suites have a big bottle of water that's included, but refills and sodas are extra charge. In addition to the "Welcome Aboard" glass of bubbly, you will have a bottle of bubbly on ice in your suite on embarkation day and an invite to the Captain's VIP Cocktail Party, which includes drinks and munchies. beachchick
pandi77 Posted June 7, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted June 7, 2008 Nice, The water sounds pretty good from the tap anyhow! What about rom service, i keep hearing that one can order anything anytime? What restrictions to this statement would apply to an AE cat suite? Surley we cannot order sushi, steak and eggs, any dessert, -you get my idea :-) can someone ellaborate please? I answered on the other thread with your question, but the short answer is that you can order anything off of any specialty restaurant menu or from the dining room, but only during hours that they are actually open. Also, you cannot order Teppanyaki or sushi. If you order a full meal (with entree) from any upcharge restaurant, you will be charged the regular fee. So, the "whatever you want" has limits. You're right that you cannot order absolutely anything you want at any time you want it, but darn it's a good perk anyway. beachchick
DMH15 Posted June 8, 2008 #15 Share Posted June 8, 2008 davejohn: Was in AE on Dawn in April and had regular coffeepot... but 2.0 was still being implemented. By June (now) things might have changed???
NoPiratesPlease Posted June 8, 2008 #16 Share Posted June 8, 2008 While the perks vary, the really big one and by far the most important one is Concierge/Butler service. That is the dividing line between the mass-market part of the cruise and the high-end guests. There are more and more perks as you get into the more expensive suites, until you reach the Garden Villa, where the water is free, the softdrinks are free, you get 6 bottles of liquor, special seating in the Theater, etc.

You can order from the room service menu. We had an AE Penthouse on the Gem last January. Ordered from room service menu once for light dinner and once for breakfast. Food was essentially not for human consumption. Eat breakfast at Cagneys.
retiredonthesea Posted June 8, 2008 #18 Share Posted June 8, 2008 Cagneys breakfast is by far the best. You can also have guests in your suite for parties and horsd'oeuvre that the Butler will set up for you. If you enjoy a special snack he/she will deliver it to your suite any time of day or even a midnight snack. Concierge will set up any reservations you might need, includes excursions, vip tender tickets ect. We will have our 3rd cruise in a AE aft coming in Oct. Really do enjoy both the aft suites and service that goes along with them. Enjoy your cruise---you'll never want to go back to a regular balcony again!:D Retiredonthesea
pandi77 Posted June 9, 2008 Author #19 Share Posted June 9, 2008 How do the VIP tender tickets work, I assume you get to board the first tender but do they bring you to the front of the line or board you early? Can you have Cagney's full beakfast or luch menu of items delivered to an AE suite for a balcony meal? Lastly, i've heard 2.0 upgrades incluse Cagney's dinner option is free with suite AE and higher. Can anyone confirm this?
beachchick Posted June 9, 2008 #20 Share Posted June 9, 2008 How do the VIP tender tickets work, I assume you get to board the first tender but do they bring you to the front of the line or board you early? They take you to the front of the line. They don't make you go down and board early. We didn't go down to the tenders until about 8:30 and, of course, there was a sizable line. We showed our VIP passes and were escorted to the front of the line (behind those needing special assistance, as is only right). Can you have Cagney's full beakfast or luch menu of items delivered to an AE suite for a balcony meal? We could have Cagney's breakfast or lunch delivered to us in the Courtyard or our Villa, but I don't recall that Penthouses had that option. Perhaps it's been added with 2.0? Lastly, i've heard 2.0 upgrades incluse Cagney's dinner option is free with suite AE and higher. Can anyone confirm this? Can't help you with this. Before 2.0, we had a letter for a complimentary dinner at the specialty restaurant of our choosing, but again that was in a Villa. I think that the Penthouses might have had the same benefit, but I don't recall. beachchick

I'm sure you've heard it used as a generic term for "I'm hungry and want to snack on a whole bunch of food." As in, I just ran a long race and now I have "the munchies." beachchick
