Bermuda-Dream June 1-8

Hi all,

I had big plans to write a lengthy review but I don't think time is cooperating with me this week.

First, this was my third cruise, first on NCL. We chose this cruise because of the three days in Bermuda and leaving out of Boston. We had a great time. There were some thing great, others just OK.

The food was both amazing and not so good. The hamburgers were nasty. I like mine medium-medium rare and they have to cook them well so I only had one. If you like them really cooked, you may love them. Some of the meals in main dining room was incredible. The prime rib, beef wellington, the deserts (chocolate orange mousse and another chocolate desert were YUMMY). Other meals were good--the turkey dinner for example. We ate in Trattoria one night and I thought it was OK. The bread was delicious. We did seem to wait forever for coffee at the end of our meal. We even made jokes about it because we waited about 20 minutes 9the dessert was long gone!) Otherwise the service was great. Some waiters were much more attentive and personable than others but not a complaint about any. We ate each night by 6:00 so we usually didn't have to wait. One night we waited for about 10 minutes because we got there a little later. We did eat breakfast most mornings in the Sports Bar and was usually there by 8:00 or so. Omelettes were pretty good, crispy bacon-yummy.

As for the shows. We went to a lot of them. We enjoyed the Blackstreet Boys a lot. Alfred and Seymour were a riot. Melvin George was pretty funny and we enjoyed The Chocolate Goddess of Love. The Country show was pretty good but we thought the Sea Legs show was just OK. We could've missed that and been fine with it.

The casino was a little disappointing. It was very strange to have machines pay out actual change instead of the slips. This is where I had the most challenges. The machines didn't always take your bills. If you had a new $10 or $20, some machines couldn't read it. BUT the casino paid out in those bills. That was a pain. So if you put a $20 and decided you didn't like the machine, you got out a bucket of nickels to take to the next machine. Then that one might not take the coins. I think they lose a ton of money by not having more efficient machines. Then if you win a small jackpot, you need to wait forever for someone to come and pay you off. I will say that the machines did seem to pay a lot in the beginning of the cruise. I played a long time on little money. Then on the last sea day, they just sucked up my money. Seemed to be paying for quite a few though.

Our room was always kept neat and clean. We had three towel animals, ice every morning and night. When we would see our room steward, he always said hi and knew us when he saw us at one of the shows.

I also wanted to share a funny story. When we were coming into Bermuda, my DH and I were standing in a nice area when an older couple came over. The woman started complaining about everything. When we came into sight of the Majesty, I thought she was going to have a heart attack because she missed the Majesty and their crew so much. She went on and on about how this cruise was horrible, the staff was horrible, the food, etc. She went on and on about how NO ONE ever greeted her or made her feel special. We listened to her for quite a while and then finally left because it was depressing. Then, every time we saw her around the ship, she looked like she was having the time of her life. Go figure!

We also overheard someone the last day on the phone telling someone how it was a horrible cruise and how disappointed this other person would've been if they had come because there was no penny slot machines. I thought that was pretty funny because I played penny slots all week. LOL

Another high point for us is that we just happened to book when the Reminisants were on. They played at my brother's wedding almost 30 years ago and I still love listening to them.

One more thing, originally we weren't going to be able to watch the Celtic/Lakers game on Thursday night but they did something so we were able to get it on the ship. That made a lot of people very happy!

I thought I would share because everyone's opinion is different. I went on longer than I thought I was going to but I wanted to share.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I love reading others' feedback on this cruise. Those folks who complain, as the couple you mentioned, are largely unprepared, probably don't read these boards, and have unrealistic expectations. Thanks to helpful reviews like yours and others, I realize this is an old ship, is not equipped to handle freestyle, and includes both the good and the bad. With that in mind, I plan to have a relaxing trip and enjoy Bermuda on our cruise in August.:)

I agree; some folks must complain about anything....we are responsible for our own happpiness both on and off a cruise! Counting the days, although it may be silly, until July is over and August is here...love hearing tips about the Dream to Bermuda. I have written down many helpful hints...
