dpro Posted June 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2008 Hurtigruten has canceled the Antarctica cruises for 2008 and 2009 on the Nordnorge. It is also selling off other ships in a cost cutting move. http://*****.com/65b8xm http://*****.com/5gwsgj We were booked for the February 27, 2009 sailing. Still waiting to hear how they are going to handle the refunds, etc. Word is they are offering incentives for rebooking sailings on the Fram, or cancellations. So sad. maztoz Posted June 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2008 Hi Ron, Sorry to hear about Hurtigruten. Hopefully it won't cause you too much hassle. We'll be heading South from East Texas to sail Corinthian II on the January 29th voyage, 2009. Come join us if things don't work out on the Fram. maztoz Posted June 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2008 You are going to love Galapagos on Xpedition. It was a fantastic experience. Don't miss the Ecuadorian themed lunch in the Dining room, best food of the trip.

RonC Thank you for posting this. I was not aware they were $120,000,000 million US in debt. I really want to do their classic Norwegian Coastal Voyage. I was already not sure because of the vary high prices with extra costs for drinkable bottled water and tea/coffee may not be available 12/7. My understanding is that dinner has one set menu without any options and that would be a problem for us. So, maybe I'll postpone this trip. The menu is posted at lunchtime and if you don't like what is on the menu you can discuss it so you get something you will like.

gaelsail Posted June 16, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2008 It is also selling off other ships I do wonder if they are only actually selling off one ship but have advertised 3 in order to give potential buyers a choice. http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=2640 This would make sense- if MS Nordnorge is withdrawn from the antarctic and it or one of the others is sold, Hurtigruten will be left with the full fleet required to run their daily coastal service. :)
Benita Posted June 18, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 18, 2008 We went to Antarctica with Lindlad on the Endeavor, which has been renamed the National Geographic Endeavor due to the association between Lindblad and National Geographic. Fabulous trip - we went in January 2005,and I see the itinerary is still the same. The web site is http://www.expeditions.com
