crysnguyen Posted June 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2008 My boyfriend and I saw this on TV, the whole roasted pig, and we want to try it! It looks pretty local, so if anybody has any info on how or where we could go eat lechon, it would be greatly appreciated. We are staying at the Marriott Stellaris and we are not yet sure if we will be renting a car. Thank you!
rainforestgirl Posted June 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2008 What day are you going to be here? I did review of Guavate- the Headquarters of Lechon. Weekends are the dyas to go, but something will have it on weekdays. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/2008/06/07/guavate-lechon-and-music/
crysnguyen Posted June 12, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted June 12, 2008 We will be in San Jua post-cruise from Sunday till Wednesday afternoon, so we might miss the weekend. Hopefully, we will find some during the week. Thanks!
amapola Posted June 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2008 You really need a car to get to Guavate, no practical way to do it otherwise. I know the lechoneras are open on weekdays, because my parents often go for lunch during the week. Weekends are more crowded, of course. If you can't make it to Guavate, an alternative could be to have pernil (roast fresh ham) at a local restaurant. It's not the same, of course, but the seasonings are similar and at least it's pork :) .
GalvezCruiser Posted June 12, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2008 If you do get a car and have a day to visit the island I can also suggest that you head towards the center of the island--perhaps towards Orocovis. You will see the true beauty of PR and lots of lechon.
