conchqn Posted June 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2008 Is there a downside to being in Rome on a Sunday? Should I change the date of my cruise because of it? Thanks, Pat
sea-explorer Posted June 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2008 Most places will be open including St. Peter's, but not the Vatican Museums. It really depends I suppose on what you really want to see.
lansingisland Posted June 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2008 3 years ago we were also in Rome on a Sunday and I was very concerned, but it was fine. You cannot see the Sistine Chapel, but St. Peters was open as was everything else we wanted to do. It was very uncrowded, which is an upside to Sunday. The Vatican Museums are open on the last Sunday of the month; however, they are also free which means they are even more jammed then normal. But sometimes the last Sunday is a holiday and then the museums are closed (such is the case 2 weeks from now, when the Vatican is closed for the feast of Ss. Peter and Paul on 6/28 and 6/29). You can check opening times on the Vatican website, http://www.vatican.va. Click on museums and then the info tab.

itsjb1 Posted June 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2008 Another advantage of Sunday is less traffic from the port to Rome and back, which leaves more time in Rome itself.
