Baboon Sanctuary & Belize City Tour

Back to the drawing board....we were sold on Bacab Eco Park but since hearing about the horrid mosquito problems (other thread I had going asking about it....) we're now considering the Baboon Sanctuary and Belize City Tour.

What's your opinion of this one?

We're traveling with our 9 month old daughter. Are the baboons loud? Would they scare her?

Would this be a good option, you think?

Thanks for the input!

We visited the baboon sanctuary in January 2008. It was the highlight of our trip. The people involved are so informed and enthusiastic about the howlers and protecting them. We were able to see a troop which included a large male, some younger howlers and a mom with a little baby. Our guide, Sean, has lived there forever and knows the animals. He was able to call 2 of them down to us. One ate a bit of banana out of my hand, which was a thrill! Your daughter might like that part, but otherwise they are pretty high up in the trees. They are beautiful and very gentle. Small, about the size of a cat. They are very loud, but they don't make noise when they are close to you. The male howled while we were there, which was very impressive. But he was way up in the trees so it wasn't too loud. It sounded like a lion's roar. We also saw a trail of very neat leaf-cutter ants. We were taken there as a custom tour by Alan from www.experiencebelizetours.com, who also took us to lunch and then to a pyramid. He drove us around in Belize City a bit, too. It was a perfect day, and we are planning to use them again next June. We will do the exact same day over again, cause it really was perfect. It was much less expensive than a ship tour, too. Have fun!
