I'm completly confused as to how the "Liquor Laws of the Sea" work. How much can you bring back, what process do you have to go through and where are the best places to get them at ANY of these ports:

Nassau, Bahamas
St. Thomas
St. Maarten

Any info would be great!

It is a liter per person but since you are visiting St. Thomas it might be more. We have gone over on a number of occasions and have only had to pay import tariffs 1x and that was when I also had a $2,000 diamond ring to declare. The cost was minimal and we still saved a lot compared to stateside prices. We have returned with as many as 8 liters. The real problem is carrying the stuff on the airplane ride home. Some of the best prices are right on the ship!

Try this link from the US Customs. You're going to fall under the $1200 exemption which means you can bring back 5 liters of alcohol but one of those must be a product of the Virgin Islands.

This should all be explained to you on the cruise.

It's actually 2 liters per adult but 1 of them has to be produced in specific islands/countries. Since some ports also have additional allowances (ex. more cigs permitted from St. Thomas) just check onboard. It should be covered in the shopping talk and in the piece that plays endlessly on your television that goes over the disembarking procedures.

in 2002 my husband and i brought back atleast 8 bottles (of the larger size, is that a liter?) from St. Thomas and were fine- Didn't pay a thing?

We live in Florida so it wasn't so bad to transport.
