TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL

800 AM EDT WED JUL 2 2008

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE WELL-DEFINED TROPICAL WAVE IN THE FAR EASTERN ATLANTIC...ABOUT

300 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS...HAS NOT BECOME ANY

BETTER ORGANIZED THIS MORNING AS IT CONTINUES WESTWARD AT ABOUT 15 MPH. HOWEVER...ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR SOME ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT...AND THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

It does look like this system will develop over the next several days... I still think it will push north into the Atlantic...

I am very new to cruising. Is it too soon to be looking at this stuff for our cruise 7/20 out of NYC?

You can watch out of interest.

Most of the systems that form off the west coast of Africa will take ten days or so to make an impact on the islands and the Caribbean.

I'd be more concerned about something popping up locally in the Western Caribbean although there are currently no signs of such activity.

We leave Port Canaveral on the 5th headed for Coco Cay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten...any guesses on how Bertha will affect us and if they divert, where do they go?

Worried and bummed!
