what is best for sea-sickness?

We are new to cruising and are about to go on a RC cruise in a few weeks. We are a family with 3 kids-ages 12,8,and 4. What type of motion sickness remedy works best? Do the sea-bands work better than the pills?

We use Bonine if and when the feeling hits. The great thing about Bonine is that you don't have to take it ahead of time. It works while at sea and cures nausea within 10 minutes.

And yes, kids do get seasick. I did as a child and my son does too.

Rebecca is right, we use bonine, but we have to use the Children's Bonine because of the ages of my kids. And even that starts at 6.

Personally, I carry around regular bonine for myself. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me.

Kids are pretty resilient. The motion has never really bothered them.

My DH has worn "Sea Bands" for years and swears by them. the trick is to read the directions carefully,, as to where they need to be placed so that they'll work properly. I rarely get sea sick, but when I start to feel like I might, I chew "Sea Band" Ginger Gum (yes they are made by the same company that makes the bands), so does our now 13 yr DS. You can get the Ginger Gum (it looks like Chicklets and comes in a box) at Rite-Aide drugstores, for some reason CVS doesn't carry it. There are also other forms of ginger such as pills, rock candy, etc., although I've never tried these forms.

Bonine and Dramamine knock me out and I don't want to give that stuff to the DS. So, we use the Ginger Gum and it works for the DS and me.

DH and I tried the "patch" once, and both had allergic reactions to them.

Everyone reacts differently to any medication . My suggestion is that if you plan to use the "patch", Bonine or Dramamine, that you try them before you go on your cruise to see what your reaction is.

Whatever you decide, have a great cruise!:D
