muskokacruizerz Posted July 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2008 We will be getting off the Zaandam on October 8th and flying out the next morning at 8:25 a.m. Can anyone recommend hotel(s) to consider. Should we stay close to the Airport or is the Old Town area worth considering? How long should it take us to get to the airport by taxi or shuttle from the Old Town area on a weekday morning? And can anyone tell this Canadian how much before flight time they want you at the airport? Any other thoughts/suggestions much appreciated.' Thanks. Splinter Posted July 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2008 You have many options. You might consider the Old Town Inn which is inexpensive, or La Pensione or Hampton Inn in Little Italy, or the Best Western Bayside Inn near the pier. Old Town is less than 10 minutes to the pier, even with rush hour traffic. Get to the airport at least 1.5 hours before your flight, as the TSA security check locations can have long lines in San Diego. If your flight is an international flight, then at least 2 hours would be recommended.
kk-l Posted July 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2008 No need to worry about rush hour traffic between the airport and Old Town, there is a "back way" on surface streets that all the taxi drivers know about. It's about 10 minutes to the airport. In Old Town the Hacienda Hotel is right in the center of things. I understand the rooms in the 110-200 block are best. http://www.haciendahotel-oldtown.com Close by is a Holiday Inn Express which is within a very comfortable walking distance to the center of Old Town. Northshorecruisers Posted July 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2008 We will be staying at the Holiday Inn on the Bay precruise 2 nights in October and then post cruise we're staying at Handlery Resort near Old Town for 1 night. Both offer free shuttles to/from the airport and to/from the cruiseport. Although last time we stayed precruise at HIOTB we just walked our luggage across the street to the cruise terminal being we hadn't booked our shuttle early enough. AzCruiseGurl Posted July 12, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2008 I stayed at Holiday Inn on the Bay a couple of years ago. DH was on business.. I loved the hotel. Nice $, close to bay, lots of good walking and the hotel offers free bike rentals. Also decent resturant on the property.
