What to do with 3 hour NYC layover?

In order to use our frequent flyer mileage, we have a 3 hour layover at Kennedy airport on the way to Orlando for our cruise.

Any suggestions to see NY and get back in time for our flight? or are we stuck in the airport for 3 hours.

Thanks for your advice

Not enough time. Kennedy is actually a very large airport and the terminals are spread apart. You won't have enough time to get into Manhattan. On a good day it would take about an hour to get there. The area around Kennedy isn't for sight seeing.

I suggest you get a book and find a corner and read. I used to travel world wide extensively and got the Amex platinum card especially for layovers, it allows you access to the Presidents Club.

I just got the platinum card but haven't yet used the President's Club. What is in there?

Free food and beverages. Lounge chairs, newspapers, magazines, TV. NO CROWDS (especially comes in handy if you are stuck in Narita airport for 1/2 day), showers, business center.

With the way air traffic is these days I wouldn't assume you will actually have a 3 hour layover...

I agree - just suck it up and wait.

And pray that you actually do have a layover and your plane isn't delayed getting into NY so you miss your connection.

In the last year and a half, not one of my flights has left or come back on time at JFK.

As a Long Islander who lives 30 miles from JFK, I advise you to stay put. I wouldn't leave the airport with a layover like that. And I could be home in 40 minutes no traffic-- but no traffic rarely happens. Safe travels
