kids at home cruisers Posted July 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2008 Hi Everyone Hopefully someone who has just returned from a Med cruise can answer these questions about a cruise in Europe. 1) What currency does the ship take - for example, If I wanted to pay some of my onboard account with cash, what currency would they accept ? 2) Which currency do the crew prefer to get any extra tips I might want to give ? Thanks in advance Steve -
skwir Posted July 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2008 I have benn on NCL 2 times in Europe and it is US currencey for all onboard accounts. This has been my experience on other lines as well. Tips go right on your account unless you instruct the Purser otherwise. If you plan on doing so then I would ask my cabin steward what he or she preferrs. helpthejuggler Posted July 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2008 If you have spare currency (any) during the cruise you can pay (some of) your ship account with this. Any currency within reason I'd expect will be accepted at that days exchange rate. The rate will be better than converting back to you home currency at a foreigh exchange desk and it will lessen the hit on your card. Off-ship - Euro may be helpful to the crew as it is accepted in most ports. On-ship the only place you use cash will be in the casino (USD only). kids at home cruisers Posted July 10, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted July 10, 2008 Thanks for the info  - Euro may be helpful to the crew as it is accepted in most ports. I was concerned that the crew may not appreciate receiving Euro coins as a tip - with the smallest euro note being 5 - I don't anticipate tipping more than a couple of euros if I order room service. thanks again Steve -
