I need help packing: things not normally thought of!

I'm sailing on my 2nd cruise and I need help packing. I've been thinking about extras to bring, ie: Air Fresheners, bathroom door hangers, zip-lock bags. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm sure there has to be some I haven't thought of. Happy Cruising.

I always pack a small ziplock bag that contains a few bandaids, Neosporin, pain relievers, antacids and a small pair of sissors. I also take a small sewing kit, just in case. A pair of small binolculars can come in real handy too!Oh, and a small bottle of Woolite.

I started my list for our cruise next year after reading posts on this board. Everytime I see something new that I hadn't thought of, I jot it down. Do a search, you'll be surprised what you find!

I agree that you want to take your own shampoo and conditioner especially if your hair has any length to it. The combination shampoo/conditioner on the ship may clean, but definitely does not condition.

I always like to take a highlighter so you can highlight the things you want to do on your "cruise compass". Something that also comes in handy is address labels that you can use on airline tags. Oh, and don't forget to take aloe just in case you get sunburned. Post It notes. Great for leaving cabin steward a note, or if your other half likes to nap, you can leave a note as to where you're off to.

Tim- where are you going to? If it is south of the border, don't forget some Pepto Bismol. My DH isn't making the trip with me on this vacation and was joking about how I was going to need it. I figured that even though I wasn't going to be drinking the water that I would still be eating the food and doing the mixed drink thing, some Pepto wouldn't hurt to take along. Sorry, it's a little long winded....

1) Disposable cheap rain ponchos that can be worn and thrown away. I packed one for each of us for each port day.

2) Thermal mug to keep your hot beverage hot and your cold beverage cold!

3) Edited to add [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] - individual serving french vanilla creamers to add to coffee after dinner.

My two, not thought of too much, must haves! There are more, but those are the first two I thought of.

If there are a couple of you using hair dryers or curling irons...I would recommend taking a short extention cord which will allow one of you to get ready in the cabin while the other is in the bathroom. It also gives you a couple additional outlets.

I bring a power strip, you know us women and our hair essentials. LOL

Other things I bring are post its, highlighter, water bottle, visor, back pack, room freshner, bathroom air freshner... that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I know I bring more out of the ordinary stuff.

An inexpensive over the door shoe bag can come in handy in the bathroom. Can get them at most everythings a dollar store. I took one last cruise and threw it away when we left.

I usually travel with my elderly mother and my toddler. I always bring some large magnetic clips to post that day's activity news for my mom to see (and find) and my toddler's artwork from the kid's program. You usually don't have trouble finding a metal wall to stick these on in your cabin.

I also bring post it notes to leave messages for my mom "meet me at bingo" or for the cabin steward "want more towels, please".

Great for collecting shells.
Putting my camera in when we do excursions to protect it from water and sand.
Packing dirty clothes.
Holding all the "paper stuff" like compasses that I bring home.

The list goes on and on....

My other cruise "must have" items are a highlighter, dollar bills for tips... small scissors... a small amount of duct tape.... neon straps for my luggage to make it easier to find... aloe for sun burn....

A small 6" clip type fan, really moves the air in a cabin steamed up from shower. Also great for white noise if you end up in cabin next to where the crew packs and repacks the gong collection all night.
