Transatlantic Weather In October

HI GUYS ,

 

I WILL BE CROSSING THE POND ( NY TO SOUTHAMPTON ) ON 4TH OCTOBER THIS YEAR , CAN ANYONE WHO HAS CROSSED AT THAT TIME OF YEAR TELL ME WHAT YOUR SEA CONDITIONS WERE LIKE . WILL IT BE GUSTY WINDS THE WHOLE WAY ? AM I LIABLE TO HIT A MAJOR STORM ... THAT I WOULD QUITE LIKE ACTUALLY , OR IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I MAY GET A FEW DAYS OF GOOD WEATHER ?

 

I KNOW THAT OCT IS NOT EXACTLY SUMMER BUT IF ANYONE COULD SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES OF AN OCTOBER CROSSING , I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFULL ,

I've made five crossings in October: three to or from New York and two on the northerly route from Montreal to Southampton. All of those voyages had some very good weather and I don't recall any that were particularly "bumpy." But as everyone will say in answer to a question such as yours, you must be prepared for anything.

Two years ago I was on a late October crossing and the sea was very smooth; no bad weather at all (although temperature was cool or brisk, not warm enough for shirtsleeves).

We crossed in October 05. We had one night of rough seas (I got the shot) but it was also because I spent time up in the Commodore Lounge while we were going through the rough seas and really felt the effect of the increased wave activity.

 

Other than that one night - it literally was smooth sailing. Remember to bring a jacket though - it can be a bit chilly.
