big_duck Posted July 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Now that some of us have been, it's time for a Splendor information thread. Here are a few to get you started: Safes are electronic keypad, not magnetic card. Yay! Some decks have an Ironing room with multiple boards and irons. Yay! The mid deck pool has a roof Yay! and no hot tubs - boo! Deck 10 is enclosed around the midship pool it has bistro seating and there is a hot tub overlooking the ocean one on each side. Yay! Smoking areas on the ship are the Casino, Sports Bar, Cigar Bar and Piano bar and maybe the disco). All other venues are non-smoking. Smoking on the outside decks is only permitted on Deck 10 and 11 in those areas that are open air. There is no smoking anywhere on the Lido Deck. If you want to know something specific please ask. big_duck Posted July 14, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted July 14, 2008 This thread is meant as an info thread not a review, but is was overall a great cruise with a few minor teething problems. (The waterpark wasn't working for most of the cruise). The entertainment was good, the new shows were very good. And most important, the Casino was good to me. :D Oh, word of advise, never, ever take a cruise with the intention of seeing Paris, you will be disappointed. 3 hours there, 3.5 hrs to do Paris, 3 hours back. big_duck Posted July 14, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Just remembered something else. The Pinnacle Restaurant is very small. Make your reservations as quickly as you can or you will be disappointed. :(

One of your fellow pax tried to explain the safe procedure, but I am not sure I understood it. Do they give you a code, or do you make one up? I think he also said that you have to use the code to close it, is that right? I will never remember the code :( Is there a secret door and just where is said secret door. With the way the ship looks, it looks like when one deck it longer than the one below or above they do not meet, they sorta overlap? Is that correct? Did that even make sense? I am glad you had a great time Don, so looking forward to our cruise too.

I was very disappointed when I found out how long we would be in Paris. But I decided that no matter how long we are there it is more than I have ever seen of Paris. I truly doubt we will ever go back to Europe and so whatever I see and do will be wonderful. I have waited so long to go to the places I have only dreamed about, and the time is coming when I will. MrPete Posted July 14, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Can't imagine Paris in three hours. Can't imagine Paris in three days. At least the ride from Le Havre should be nice, if that's where you dock. Actually, if so, I would just tour the local towns up there, like Hon Fleur, Trouville and Deuville . They are quite nice! Rouen was nice as well, where they burned Joan of Arc.

If I knew I would be back to Paris, then perhaps I would change our excursion, but since I am pretty sure I will not be back I can only see Paris as long as we are allowed. Paris is a place I have always longed to see and now I will.

I am also concerned by this. Is there NO smoking allowed Aft deck pool area? Official policy from the Capers: "Guests are welcome to smoke in the following areas: The Royal Flush Casino, the Grand Piano Bar, Red Carpet Dance Club and the Our House Sports Bar. Cigar smoking is only allowed in the Rubusto Cigar Bar located on Deck 4 aft. Smoking on the open decks is strictly prohibited except on the Starboard (right) side of Decks 10 and 11." Ok, there is smoking allowed, same as usual on other Carnival ships, Starboard side only. Thank you Big Duck. No flaming on smoking please. 2TNCruisers Posted July 14, 2008 #23 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Do the showers have curtains or the rounded doors?
discruzincrazy Posted July 14, 2008 #24 Share Posted July 14, 2008 ....Curtains and only a small 'lip' around the bottom to contain the water so every time someone showers it gets a bit wet ! Otherwise bathrooms are great . Plenty of shelves for toiletries and pretty spacious too .
