loti Posted July 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2008 Hi All, We are on the SOS in Late Aug. We are in the inside passage to Icy Strait Poinht, Hubbard, Juneau and Skagway. What's the mosquito issue during that time at those places? Any experiences? Thanks
agabbymama Posted July 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2008 We did our cruisetour Aug 18-28, 2007. From Vancouver to Tracy Arm, to Juneau, to Skagway NOT MOSQUITO ONE, but of course it will depend on what you are doing as far as land excursions. If you are going into the Rain Forest, you may find mosquitos there. From Skagway to Whitehorse to Dawson City to Eagle to Chicken to Tok to Fairbanks to Denali and ending in Anchorage, we saw 2 mosquitos at the hotel in Tok. Lots of gnats, but no mosquitos at Denali. Take some Deet repellant just in case, but you shouldn't need it.
Putterdude Posted July 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2008 There is seldom any problem with mosquitos on the coast...they really don't like salt air and wind. That said it is not a bad idea to bring along some towellets like Deep that have 25% DEET and are good for up to 6 hrs. They are easy to pack and put in your pocket or purse when going ashore just to be sure.
