Sirius Satellite radio - Western Caribbean

I've searched, but not found any recent comments about coverage from Grand Cayman down to Roatan. Our room is on the Starboard side, Upper Deck, 1st balcony. Does anyone know if we'll only get reception going or coming back? Trying to decide if we should buy a docking station for the Sirius, or get one for our MP3 Player and just pack that. Any advice?? Thanks!

with my stiletto 100, i only received a usable signal when on the open decks. once the ship got south of costa maya, a connection could not be established.

Wow! Did you try reception on a balcony, or just decks like the Lido? When I looked at the Sirius coverage map, it shows coverage all the way down to Costa Rica. Could it be just the side of the ship you were on? I'm going to be sad if I can't listen to Margaritaville while in the islands! :(

We take our SIRIUS radio on EVERY cruise. It is ~ 50/50 with regard to having reception on a given side of the ship. If you don't have it "going", you should have it "coming". We have been fairly lucky, though we do take our MP3 player to plug into the AUX input just in case.

 

Especially when you get "south" (Belize and beyond), you need an open spot in just the right place.

 

Having a corner balcony REALLY increases your odds (lots of SKY)!

Thanks, Tom!! Sure wish we had a wrap-around balcony! I'll have my husband check out your pics with the Sirius AND MP3 Player - I'm a bit ignorant with these techie things!

We also used ours on an aft wrap all the way to Colon Panama and back. Worked while we were in Costa Rica too. Gotta have my Sirius. :D

Judging by your AVATAR, can I safely assume that you took the TWO OCEANS BY RAILROAD excursion in Panama??
