Transportation from Redhook to LGA

Recommended Posts

There are six of us from Carribean Princess at Redhook to LGA in October

Ship docks at 7:15 (?) on a Sunday - Customs? - Disembarking ? and we have an 11:30 flight from LGA

Originally had more time but airline cancellations have changed our plans

Any thoughts on the best way to make it happen?

Two ways. Take one or two of the limos that the pier has there for you(about $60 per car) or call Arecibo(about $40 per car) as you get off(with cell phone). They should be there in 15 minutes, Its 20-30 minutes to LGA with no traffic. If you do your own carry off it should be no problem at all. You carry your own luggage through customs anyway(its like an airport)...as long as the ship isn't late and you get self embark it should be ok...

There are taxis but also a number of authorized limos. Also you are lucky it is a Sunday as you will not have traffic so you should be fine if you get out of the terminal by 9am. Make sure your ship knows you need to be in an early disembarkation group because you need to catch an early flight (tell them your flight leaves at 10am).

Thanks

Is there a flat rate for the taxi to LGA or is it metered

flat rate to/fro airports from Manhattan and JFK but not LGA.

From the New York City Taxi Commission web site:

Metered Rate of Fare

The meter is required to be engaged or "hired" when a taxicab is occupied by anyone in addition to the driver

Standard City Rate (Rate Code 1)

$2.50 upon entry

$0.40 for each additional unit The unit fare is:

  • one-fifth of a mile, when the taxicab is traveling at 6 miles an hour or more; or
  • 60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 12 miles per hour.
  • The taximeter shall combine fractional measures of distance and time in accruing a unit of fare. Any combination of distance or time shall be computed by the taximeter in accordance with the National Bureau of Standards.
  • The fare shall include pre-assessment of the unit currently being accrued; the amount due may therefore include a full unit charge for a final, fractional unit.
  • Night surcharge of $.50 after 8:00 PM & before 6:00 AM
  • Peak hour Weekday Surcharge of $1.00 Monday - Friday after 4:00 PM & before 8:00 PM

Flat Fare from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport:

For trips between (to and from) Manhattan and JFK International Airport, the flat fare is $45.00 plus any tolls using Rate Code 2 on the meter. Surcharges will not be added.

If passengers request multiple stops, the flat rate of $45.00 will be collected at the first stop in either Manhattan or JFK International Airport, and the meter will be activated at Rate Code 1 (standard city rate) for the remainder of the trip. The metered fare should be collected at the last stop, from the last passenger.

All trips between JFK International Airport and New York City destinations other than Manhattan will use that standard metered rate.

Can you clarify what you mean by "the limos that the pier has for you"

Are you referring to taxis that are waiting - or are there also limos and van service waiting for people to use without making advance reservations?

Yellow cabs are a problem with the first people off because there generally aren't that many waiting. Yellow cabs are cheaper with the fare to LGa being about $30-35(meter as explained above). The limos are those the pier has contracted with which are the most expensive but are a set fee. the limos will generally be there waiting(as they get more money and Sunday AM is a slow time anyway). Yellow cabs while they do come to Brooklyn(sometimes reluctantly) don't normally congregate in the area...If there are cabs grab two and go.

Unless you make arrangements for a stretch limo(which will cost more) or you luck into a stretch limo at the pier(which will also charge you more) you can't get 6 people into a taxi or a regular limo.

Instead of a town car or a stretch limo you would probably be better off getting a large van that a number of the limo companies offer. do a google search and you will probably find an appropriate company.

also, doesn't Princess offer a transfer program?
