Thanks - very interesting. WHY can't Carnival get the same thing in all of their ships at the same time??? Especially something as "simple" as a box of plastic cards!!!

Tom
Perhaps Carnival only bought a limited number....because they are going to the BLACK ELITE CARD!!!!

One can dream....... ;)
Ok, my next cruise is going to be my Platinum....Sept 14th on the legend, but it wont be my husbands....It is his 9th.....

i snuck and took an "all girls cruise..."....LOL so i am one up on him.

Now, the room is booked in his name.........are they going to acknowledge my platinum status?

How does that work when only one person in the room is platinum????

Thanks!@
Denise
LOL....I did the exact same thing! I'll be Platinum on our Sept cruise, he'll still be gold. My mom's going with....her first one so she'll have the blue card. We're all in the same cabin.

Since it will be my first Platinum I'm reading everyone's posts about the perks and what to expect with non-Platinums.

Tom: Y'all should come on the Blogger's Cruise out of New Orleans on February 7, 2009. It is going to be a HOOT!!!!!

Regarding the percentage/numbers of Platinum guests. It depends on the ship and amount of days of the itinerary. My husband and I just got back from a 5 day Inspiration. There were 2600 people on board, approx. 800 were past guests, but only 10 of us were platinum.

Everywhere we went, people wanted to see our platinum cards. Lots of fun!!

Same thing here for us... We just got off the Paradise and there were only 8 Platinim Members and we were 6 of them!!! Check-in, Pursers Desk and Casino Employees were amazed.... We loved the attention :)

We always look at the list at the Casino Cage and there are usually around 15 Platinum members on board. There have been as few as 8 (4 of which were us) and as many as 35.

John Heald (Senior Cruise Director for Carnival) just posted on his blog that the current Splendor cruise had 177 Platinum members on board!!!

And we are usually the only Milestone Rewards Member. (Milestone Reward Members get TWO lines on the Casino's list...so they are easy to spot.

However, one thing about that list....they show the number of cruises by each individual's name and we have never found one that was up to date.

They are usually 3 - 5 cruises low....for some reason. For example...on one cruise they only had my son listed for 17 cruises and this was his 22nd.

I'll bet that would be a blast! We are considering a sailing over Valentine's day next year, though have not yet settled on anything.

Up until a few cruises ago they had our numbers CORRECT on that list. Then the numbers quit increasing. We were at the same level for about 3-4 sailings. I brought it to corporates attention. Their solution (you are going to love this) - on our June 30th Inspiration the list in the casino NO LONGER LISTED THE NUMBER OF CRUISES. Pretty clever, LMAO!!!
I am also cruising in sept.......Legend ...Sept 14th.......

Which one are you on?

Denise
We're doing Liberty Western on the 13th. We've been to all the ports but Liberty will be a new ship for us.

We did Legend in May (same one as LHP) and had a really good time! I think you'll like it!

Before I hijack this thread with something unrelated, I'll say that I envy your son just getting on 'the list'. I've yet to appear. Each and every time the cage attendant runs a finger up and down the page(s) a couple of times, and eventually hands it to me to look for myself. We both sigh and then I sign my name at the bottom and they issue the tourney card.

Now. . . you've mentioned for quite some time about your enjoyment of karaoke while onboard, but I don't recall you ever mentioning how many times you've done the Legends Show (which I checked out in your online vacation pics). Amazing! And once with your son in the same show. How cool is that??!! I hope to witness your talent when we sail on Carnival Splendor later this year.

They will get the VIP embarkation, debarkation and tendering. You can share the plates sent to your room. They will not get a gift, stationary, casino perks. I am not sure of the spa perks. They can go with you on the galley tour. My family is fighting over who gets to room with me for my son's 21st birthday cruise to get the perks with me. I should have my Dad platinum by that time too.

Sadly it won't be on a Legends Show, since it is only a 4 day cruise...BUT my old friend Melvin is suppose to be the Karaoke Host...so you can guarantee I will be at karaoke every night...as usual!!

My son and I had a BALL on the Legend...in the Legends Show. It was the first time he has every tried anything like that . He is 20. He is in college and misses a lot of our cruises now...so it was fun to be able to do that with him.

I have been Aretha - once, Gloria - twice, Elton John (on the Imagination~~they don't allow "opposite sex" to audition...but we did not have an Elton John and they were short a social host to fill in...so I volunteered) and Cher (again not usually a passenger slot, but the ACD who usually does it hurt his knee and I knew the routine...so I filled in).

My 20 year old was Ricky Martin. Very last minute and he did ok for a song that was clearly not in his range.

I have to say the reason I cruise is to karaoke.

The only place near where I live to karaoke is almost an hours drive and not in a good part of town. Carnival gives me a safe (usually smoke free) place to do what I love!!! At the age of 53, the pipes are not what they used to be. It is getting harder and harder to hit and hold those notes.

But I have to say the most fun is getting people up there that would otherwise never even consider it. I can not count the number of ladies that secretly wanted to get up, but NEVER would, that are now "on film" somewhere as The Pips! OR they start out singing "with me" and then I quietly ease back until they are carrying it on their own... if they are doing a good job...I would never hang someone out there to dry (so to speak). If I hear they can hold their own...then I let them take it and they have no idea until it is over that they did it all by themselves. The best was a young lady who had never done karaoke and I could hear her singing along in her chair. I could tell she would really sing. So we got her up there and she did great. By the end of the 7 day cruise...she was doing solos and even did the Legend Show and was fabulous!!!

Can't wait for November!!!!
Does Carnival ever count cruises that sail for more then 15 days as more than one cruise credit toward VIP?
No....they count "a cruise as one cruise" no matter the length.
Mainly because they have so few cruises that are longer than 12 days.

Wow 177 Platinum members on the ship. That VIP room must have been full

On the Freedom, the Platinum list in the Casino was very long, here's a picture of one down in the galley.
Actually this is not correct for some ships.

There was a PLATINUM self assist that went before the Regular Self Assist.

It was FABULOUS on the Legend. They had us meet at the Sports Bar at a certain time and then escorted us through the Casino ...into the Lobby area where hundreds of folks were standing in line to do the self assist....they got to watch us "self assist first'!! :D
Must be something new, never seen or even heard of this. Glad you mentioned it. Nothing like this onboard Freedom or Paradise this past April.

This is how it has been ever since I have been Platinum. We meet at a certain place and then they escort us off first. On the Inspiration they told you how to get to the lobby. We had to open the door through the art gallery and go to the excursion desk. Many tried to follow us and were turned away. I had a few ask me why we got to go through this way and they were surprised about the Platinum perks. I wish Carnival advertised the perks more, might make more want to cruise more often. If you are not on this site you never hear about the perks until you are Platinum.
