Artemis

I have just come back from the QE2 with my 87 year old father and he wants to cruise again!

QE2 is out of the question. How does the Artemis compare?

We've looked at QM2 (too big for him), Queen Vic (he says it looks like a block of flats on a barge!), Independence of the Seas (too big for him).

Any ideas on ships? We only want 3/4 nights. Ship more important than destination.

She was our favorite ship while she was Royal Princess for Princess Cruise Lines, and were very sorry to see her transferred to P&O (UK).

Very stable ship in heavy seas, and a very easy layout, making it easy to get to all venues.

We think the size is very good, and much prefer that size to the behemoths.

We are Artemis fans-small,friendly and all outside cabins.

Adults only so a very civilised atmosphere.

Cinema,show lounge and good dining.

Extensive deck space.

I thik your father would have a great time.

If you are only going for a few days, I would think that Artemis is ideal. We went on it earlier this year and initially found it very small and dinky compared to Oriana etc. After 25 days we were absolutely smitten by it, the ship is so easy to walk round, nothing is further than a couple of minutes. The Conservatory is a little narrow but overall the ship is Wonderful. You will have a great time and I recommend that you go for more than 4 days. Have fun.

As an alternative, have a look at cruises on Fred Olsen's Black Watch and Boudicca - classic ships from around the same time as QE2, and providing a mix of short and long cruises from various ports in the UK.
