rookie10 Posted July 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2008 We are arriving in Charlottetown on Aug. 31/08 aboard the Explorer of the Seas. We are considering renting a car and driving around the island. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions in regard to this plan. Thank you. MonaCD Posted July 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2008 The Island is 175 miles long, tip to tip. So while you theoretically could do tip to tip one way, a return trip would be pushing it, especially keeping in mind it's all 2 lane roads and you'd have to drive to one end and back to Charlottetown then head to the other end and back. A coastal drive would be several hundred miles and pretty much out of the question in one day. It's usually suggested doing that over a three day period. However, we have 3 scenic coastal drives mapped out, basically one for each county. I would suggest picking one and doing it. You can find more information here http://www.gov.pe.ca/visitorsguide/index.php3?number=1010975 The one around central PEI might give you more attractions and you'd get to see the most in the least amount of time but the others will give you equally beautiful sights to see. Two if by Sea Posted July 31, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2008 We had great luck renting from Discount. They will come and get you at the pier and then bring you back at the end. They were very friendly and all went well. Be sure to refill the tank even if you've only gone 10 miles or it will cost you!!
