Do you get dirty looks ? Platinum

[quote}OTOH there are those with both the status and class to be able to use their perks unobtrusively. You will rarely see them, at least as Platinum members. They are cordial and have the confidence that the pushy ones lack.

First off, let me just say that my entire family loves Carnival and my family of four plus my parents are all Platinum. My immediate family has cruised other lines and we always have a good time because we make our own good time, regardless of which line we are cruising.

But I also have to say that YES because of especially one perk (and one family member) in particular, we do cruise Carnival for now because of that one Platinum perk....

It's called a stubborn almost 80 year old man that we call Dad and Poppy!!! Poppy will and has to (for health reasons) only eat early... With Carnival we can guarantee the early seating, thus making all of us happy...

We were seriously considering another cruise line for next years cruise, but when we realized that we could not guarantee the early seating (and we prefer the dining room to the Lido Deck), we quickly went back to Carnival.

And please don't start with the open seating thing, because as we learned on another cruise line that does that, when you cruise with 10 or more people, "open seating" doesn't really mean just that. When you walk up to the Maitre'd and say "table for 10 please", they say "OK, the table will be available in an hour"..... and with Poppy, that just won't work...

So, YES, we love Carnival, and YES we are cruising them for one of the Platinum perks....

As far as I'm concerned the 80 year old dad a/k/a poppy outta be able to have whatever seating he wants regardless of his status PLUS the other nine of you should be allowed to sit with him. It's wonderful you're able to enjoy his company on your cruises. I'm sure you cherish the time together.

I am a platinum member with Royal Caribbean all I can say is the perks are wonderful. After my cruise in October I'll be Diamond with even better perks.

Don't get me wrong we have sailed Carnival before and have enjoyed our time on board. But Carnival really doesn't do anything for returning guests unless you have sailed with them 10 times.

Just look out, here I come :D I wonder what Guarantee Dining Times means? If you go to see the Maitre'D for a time change, Im sure that comes with a table change as well.

Do away with the Concierge Line then, thats rude and pushy also.

• All Gold member benefits

• Carnival Concierge Club benefits* including:

• Personalized stationery

• A special Carnival logo item

Guaranteed dining times and supper club reservations

• Complimentary $20 entry fee into blackjack or slots tournament**

• Spa Carnival priority reservations

• Petit fours and/or canapés delivered to cabin*** one evening

• Complimentary wash and fold laundry service

• Priority tender boarding

• Priority embarkation and debarkation

• Complimentary arcade tokens valued at $5 dollars for guests under

18 years of age

Guaranteed "Dining Times" does not give you the right to go to the head of the line. It only means that whatever time you requested would be honored. Not all the other "stuff" you think you are entitled to.

There are always those who make the rules fit their desires!

Fred, I hope you can see where the confusion originates. Many of us remember reading (after your April sailing on Carnival Freedom) that you went to check on table selection for the three of you, but didn't make a change to dining time.

That's why it could seemingly appear that your initial statement in this thread would be a personal decision to adjust the stated perks to something else.

I still think it's a risk to frustrate other passengers, whom you'll be spending multiple days with, to attempt the described created perk.

Aaron Peirsol's record is often challenged on these Cruise Critic boards.

It is just rude! Needing to have "special" needs met has nothing to do with guaranteed dining times.

It was my Mother-in-Laws first cruise and I wanted a table for ourselves so that she can relax and not have to entertain others at the table.

Fred

So....wait in line with everyone else that has a "special" request.

Why would you think she would be expected to entertrain others at the table. Is she a celeberity?

Very well stated Elaine. God Bless you and your family and as always "Bon Voyage"...:)

Wayne & Debbie

Thanks Guys....

Yes, I am extremely fortunate to still have and be able to cruise with my 74 yr old Mom & 79 yr old Dad and I will always have wonderful memories...

They started me when I was young and my girls started when they were each just 7 months old and we were all Platinum before the program even started... (and they are now 14 & 18).

But if they're happy, we're happy and Carnival Platinum gives us that....So, thank you Carnival for all that you do/offer, especially the guaranteed dining times...

P.S. Fred, I truly love you and all that you write/do/say BUT we have also always waited on line to see the Maitre'D and never once "cut in" to the front. We know they have to accomodate us so we wait on line just like everyone else....

Well, on Carnival, that is what "Platinum" means....it is for guests who have sailed 9 times before. On the 10th, they are Platinum.

Carnival does have a few past guest perks for those with less than 10 cruises; discounts on certain cruises, a very nice past guest party onboard, etc. But, for the Platinum perks, only loyalty is rewarded.

They also offer nice perks for 25,50 and 100 cruises.

DP1111 may have been referring to a situation like our son. He has Autism and Carnival special needs department arranges for us to have a private table for him.

The first thing we do is double check when we board to make sure that this has been handled....but we always stand in line (even though we are a Milestone Reward Member) just like everyone else. ;)

However, on two occasions...one of the assistants who saw our card has pulled us out of the line and helped us immediately. We did not ask for that ...but we certainly did not turn it down!! :D

When visiting a port, does platinum also get you to the front of the line too to get back on board ??

Now THAT is a perk I could really make use of. On our last cruise I was ill in Cozumel and we had to wait 45 minutes in line to board the ship. Of course I don't see it working somewhere like Cozumel, where the main line is to get into the pier area, and it's really got nothing to do with Carnival.

I don't really see Carnival adding to the list of Platinum perks, but if they were to add something like this, I would do a happy dance.

Well yes I have seen the dirty looks. No I was not flashing the card around. Many people don't understand why you get escorted onto the ship or why you get to go to the head of the line - (for some things - NOT ALL). Worst case was coming back on Conquest and getting escorted to Platinum area for luggage retreival and customs. Walked past a large number of people who were not happy about that. Those who know whats happening don't seem to have a problem - those that don't - well they just don't. I assume at some point they will understand.

That was exactly the case - - I just chose not to be any more specific.

You've mentioned DJ on several occasions, but I'm always going to let you fill in those blanks rather than me screwing up.

BTW, I look forward to meeting him and the rest of the family in a few months. :)

Can't wait.....

he is not really happy right now...Jr. did not finish well in the race yesterday because of a bad call by his Crew Chief. It cost him a couple of spots in the rankings.

There is always next weekend!!! :D

Carnival has a Past Guest party for returning guests. That is the only perk I know of until you reach Platinum (10th cruise), but it IS "doing something."

We recently went on our first cruise with Royal Caribbean. What perks can I expect as a returning guest, if we cruise again, with them? (What constitutes Platinum and Diamond with RC?)

My DW and I will be celebrating our "Platinum" status on our upcoming Freedom cruise in December. We are also celebrating our 21st Wedding Aniversary and the 21st aniversary of her 21st birthday.

With all that being said, we fully plan on taking advantage of the Platinum status and all its benefits. Hopefully it will be make our special trip just a little more special. If we get looks, so be it! We know that we have earned it and we will take advantage of it!

We are just average people on an average income and don't plan on "Abusing" and of the benefits but we will "Use" them!

Platinum on RCI are completing 5 cruises and Diamond is 10 completed, not like Carnival that gives you the status on your 10th cruise. No real perks with RCI until you hit Platinum. Free wine tasting, coupon book and some gift, plus the past guest party. Once you get to Platinum, you get the special line and lounge for embark and debark.

So, basically, paraphrasing attitudeda, Royal Carribean really doesn't do anything for their past guests until you've sailed with them 5 times.
