Ceuta on our own?

Recommended Posts

Ceuta is on the ports of call on our cruise and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's a city that we can do on our own. Any must-see's or must-do's while we're there? Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!

I've never been to Ceuta but have been to Tangiers which is similar, although of course not part of Spain. If you've not read the article, be sure to go to Wikipedia and look up the Ceuta article. There will be links at the bottom of the article as well that are worthwhile. Yes, you can quite easily do it on your own although pesky locals may force you to "hire" someone just to keep the other pesky locals away.

Hello BobOfTheNorth -

Thanks for your reply! I laughed when I read your post about hiring a local to keep the other locals away but I'm sure that's true. I found some additional info on Ceuta and there was one scary account of a tourist being followed by a local for over half an hour. Maybe I will opt for a tour with the cruise ship instead of doing this one on our own.

I think I'd opt for the ship's tour as well. You can then scope the place out and go off on your own once the tour is over, if it looks plausible.

When we did Tangiers we finally accepted the services of a local young man just to keep everyone else from asking. He offered to give us a tour for just $10. We thought that was a good deal except that when the tour was over he stated the price that he quoted was $10.....a person....$30 for our group. It was still worthwhile though.
