I know that when you initially set up your S/S card, you give them a credit or debit card to start the account. What im wondering is, do they charge you as you buy stuff or do you just get charged one lump sum at the end of the cruise? I just need to know what card i should be using. :) I searched around but didnt see a thread on this. TIA

It's called an "authorization" that is done in increments. The actual charge is done at a later time as charges accumulate. This won't affect a credit card much unless you have a really low limit and want to use it for other things as well. If using a debit card, this may tie up your money if you are cruising on a real tight budget. The authorizations (holds) are not cancelled when a charge is made. They fall off on their own after about seven days. This can 'appear' like double the charges. The actual charge is not doubled, but it can tie up your funds until the holds fall off.

We have a separate account just for cruising, so it doesn't bother us. Some others have had quite a surprise, though!
