Volendam - Last boarding time in Seward

Hi Everyone,

 

I am debating whether we have enough time on day of Embarkation in Seward to take the 11:30 - 5:30 pm Kenai Fjord cruise before checking in and boarding the cruise ship.

 

My wife and I will be taking the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward that morning.

 

Does anyone know when the last check in is for the Volendam in Seward?

 

Just want to make sure that we won't miss check in and boarding.

Hi there, we were on the Volendam last month and we did a full day trip (Mariah/Kenai Fjord Tours) from 8.30 to 17.30, the ship was due to sail at 20.00. Afterwards we had plenty of time to get to the ship, we'd hired a car with Hertz and dropped it off in the morning, left our luggage with them and then got a lift in their shuttle after the Kenai trip.

 

It was a good day trip, saw loads of humpbacks, Dahl porpoises, eagles, seals, sea lions etc etc, but the weather was a bit crappy. Aalik Glacier was okay, but we'd had a beautiful day walking up alongside Exit Glacier the previous day (but it's a good build up to Glacier Bay). Not sure how much you'd see on a half day trip though and how many people you'd have to share it with (the boat we were on only took 20 people).

 

Get in touch with the companies (Kenai Fjord tours are well thought off) to see if they have a shuttle that can run you and your luggage down to the ship. If you've completed on-line check in you need to be on board ONE HOUR before departure. Enjoy!

We are doing the Kenai Fiords that day. We are sailing B2B, but it shouldn't be a problem for you. I believe the latest check in is 1 1/2 hours before sailing. It sails at 8:00pm.

Thanks for the information. It's good to hear that we'll be able to catch both cruises. I had called HAL reservations, but they really were not sure. The lady on the phone said I had to be there and on board by 6pm.

 

We'll leaving taking the Southbound cruise on 8/31.
