yes it is true, they do offer reasonable (IMO) laundry service. Also mix and match and you can stretch the clothes out for much longer

How odd for such a large ship. I'm pretty sure they could have found some space to add a laundromat. There will be 5 of us and everyone knows how quick dirty clothese accumulate.

No RCCL ships have self serve laundries.

I don´t think it´s odd, but then I wouldn´t even think about using them anyway.

I guess they just decided to use the space more useful and put a cabin in there instead of a laundry room.

As Sue said non RCCL ship has a laundry room for passengers.

I know where you are coming from. I cruise with RCCL, and Princess about half and half. My upcoming cruise is a 14 day cruise to Hawaii. One of the reasons I choose Princess is the laundromat on each deck. I couldn't afford to fly with enough clothes for two weeks!

There are probably several laundromats you can use, just none of them will be on the ship.

it's tough travelling with 3 kids and an 87 year old dad. Catching a flight to London and then taking a taxi to the port with heavy luggage is no joke. It would help if on a 2 week cruise in the Med one could wash some clothes. I don't think anyone likes to wear the same t-shirt twice. We all know how hot it gets in the Med.

I've sailed the sister ship, the Freedom, and I can tell you that there aren't any self serve laundry facilities on board. You'll either have to improvise with the bathroom sink or pay to have your clothes washed and pressed.

 

One tip I will give you is to ask your room attendant when the laundry special day is on your trip. On my one week cruise, it fell on Wednesday and you basically get everything you can fit into a sack washed and pressed for a flat rate fee. I'm sorry that I can't remember what that fee was, but it was very cheap compared to the price it was for all items individually. I want to say $20, but I really can't remember. I know it wasn't $40 or higher, so there's a mental cap if you need one. ;)

 

The web site lists the prices for washing/pressing. A press only is 50% of the listed price. I do feel for you though with 5 people going; that's going to be a sizable bill.

I used the laundry facilities on my Carnival cruise during the at sea days. I generally threw in a load or two, went to the pool and came back in time to switch to the dryer. If you do it in the early morning, you probably would have a better time at getting enough machines on your floor and having the irons available to press. If you wait too late in the day, you'll definitely find yourself having to run up and down to other floors to find an open machine and iron.

 

With that said, if I were on something like the Majesty, I wouldn't want to do laundry because you're in port every day. I'd much rather have my clothes washed and pressed for me while I was on excursion.

That's the one thing that miffs me about Royal Caribbean ships. Not being able to do laundry. All the ships I've sailed on Carnival, Cunard, Princess and NCL have laundry facilities on board. This day in age, when the airlines are charging for everything. We can't just pack 2 or 3 weeks of clothing. When I took Carnival to Europe last year. I packed one suitcase and one carry on. Since I knew I would have to carry them all around Rome with me. I did Laundry as soon as I got on the ship. It made traveling much easier. Especially since I was in Rome 4 days before the cruise even started. The real reason RCCL and Celebrity doesn't have any laundry facilities are money. They want to make you spend the money are their laundry services, that's the bottom line.

We did the Navigator on the Med in Sept last year 14 nights (flight luggage allowance wasnt very high)...two of us, never wore same outfit twice but used the laundry bag special $20 for the underwear :D

I agree this is my one gripe about RCCL (okay - other than no wine aboard, but that is another thread..;) ) Even though I drive to the port, I travel with two kids and have always done laundry half way through the trip. Those $20 bags are tiny and I don't get much value for four of us.

Laundromats on ships don't really make much sense. They already have high-efficiency, giant capacity machines. To take up valuable space with inneficient smaller machines is not economical.

 

It doesn't cost any more to have your room attendant do it for you. Who wants to spend vacation waiting around a laundromat, when for the same price, you can have it done for you?

I just take the piles of dirty clothes home with me, but my sil likes to do hers onboard. NCL has free laundry rooms on each cabin deck (at least it was free last year).

Having no self-serve laundry is the only thing I don't like about RC. Other than that, I think the ships are beautiful and I really enjoy cruising on them!

Sorry to be blunt, but if it's that big a deal to you, then this question would've been better posed as part of your research prior to you booking.

You are correct, but even the prices that they charge seem reasonable to most of us who cruise on RCI regularly and who don't care to spend vacation time doing laundry or having to hear angry fellow passengers complaining when someone doesn't return to the laundry time as soon as their wash is complete. One of our tablemates on Dawn Princess suffered a less than pleasant encounter with another passenger when his laundry wasn't immediately removed from the machine when it was done. We have found the special bag offer to come in handy and on our last cruise we used it towards the end of the cruise and found it much more pleasant to return home with a bag filled with clean, not dirty, clothes. If you include the cost of sending laundry out in your overall budget you will see that it is a minor item and you may conclude, as we have, that the convenience is well worth the cost.:)

FYI - Make sure you read the fine print on the laundry form. If your clothing is damaged there is a cap on the amount they will reimburse you. I had read the disclaimer and sent a linen shirt to be pressed. It was returned to my room with permanent marker on the sleeve because someone in the laundry used permanent marker to write our cabin # in large print on the laundry return slip and it transferred to the clothing. They tried to get it out and were unsuccessful so we were reimbursed. The amount did cover the value of the shirt because it was not expensive, but just realize that things can happen and be certain if something does you will be happy with the restitution amount.

I'm sorry, but you need to check your math. It doesn't cost $6.00, or even half that price, to wash two dress shirts! It doesn't even cost you $6 in materials (soap/softener) to wash an entire load of darks (shirts, shorts, underwear, socks, dark washable slacks, etc). I'd glady pay two bucks for the washer (I think Carnival charged $1), two for the the dryer (ditto) and two for soap/softener, and wash/dry my load and come out ahead every time.

 

Really, have you seen the price list? And they don't give you the option of wash/dry only because they will press your clothes if they wash them.

 

And really, how hard is it to throw in a load and then go to the pool, or throw in a load and then go play basketball? Throw in a load and then go eat lunch, throw in a load and then go play mini-golf (I can do this all day). I was a college student once and did that all the time -- go to class, go to the library for an hour and check out a book, go grab lunch, go study for an hour, whatever. You then come back, switch everything to the dryer and then go do something else for an hour.

 

I certainly can understand your point if you'd rather do something else, but I'd rather keep that money and apply to it other things like shopping, casino, alchohol, gifts, specialty dining, etc. -- especially if it's an at sea day. Like I said, when I'm on the Majesty, I'll pay to have my cleaning done. Other than that, I'd appreciate it if you gave me the option to save some money here so I can spend it there.
