IslandToIsland Posted August 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Is there a card out there that does not charge international fees if used in different ports? Visa or Mastercard in particular. Thanks

CwuzCwazy Posted August 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2008 You should be OK with any Visa or MC. The credit card industry took it on the chin in a recent class action suit for pulling that crap. We are currently in line to collect the additional fees we paid in the past. In the Caribbean you should be OK.

Actually the card companies still charge that fee, but it now has to be disclosed to the consumer, they used to just hide it in the transactions so that people wouldn't know that they were paying it. It will now be listed as a separate charge. Almost all credit card companies charge a foreign transaction fee, you can easily find the rate in the terms and conditions of your credit card, these usually range from 1-3% (1% is actually what VISA/Mastercard/AMEX charge, the rest is profit for the bank). Capital One is the only major issuer to waive the fee completely, so what you charge is what you pay, no more. MAC
